This is a stunning rooibos tisane. The tartness of the açaí berry and hibiscus marry well with the natural sweetness of the rooibos as well as the other fruit flavors of this blend, creating a remarkably smooth, mild tea.
Because of it’s name, one would be correct in assuming that the açaí berry is a dominate flavor in this blend. But the flavor that really grabs me here is the peach! It is sweet and juicy, and tastes as though it had just been picked from the tree. It’s so good.
The mandarin orange and lemongrass provide a citrus-y appeal that rounds out the flavor. If you like fruity teas, you’re in for a treat with this one – it is a very ambrosial cup. And, to my great delight, the hibiscus and rosehips are quite delicate in this blend, lending a bit of body and color to the tisane, but not so strong that it overwhelms the delicious fruit flavors.
Zhena’s Gypsy Tea describes this tisane as
This tea is the result of carefully crafted blending, to ensure that the essential harmony of the botanicals healthful properties yield a superb tea experience.
Prized for its healthful benefits, lush Brazilian Acai berry is blended with antioxidant rich South African Roobios and enriched with the bright lively notes of lemon grass, mandarin orange and juicy peach. Hibiscus flowers from Egypt produce a naturally sweet and satisfying cup abundant in health promoting properties.
Ingredients: South African Rooibos, organic rosehip, organic hibiscus, organic orange peel, organic Guatamalan lemongrass, organic Sambazon acai berry, essential oil of Mandarin and organic peach flavor.
The tea brews to a gorgeous, deep burgundy color – probably because of the hibiscus. However, unlike a hibiscus tisane, this tea is not at all thick or syrupy. Because of its mellow flavor, it makes for a very agreeable late evening tea.
While it is very delicious hot, I think that this tea is even better iced. Either way you choose to serve it, you should be prepared to add a little sweetener – not because it’s tart, but because the flavors here need just a little encouragement to reveal themselves.
This is quite possibly the best tea I’ve yet to try from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea!

"When I was a kid, in the middle of winter, my friend Penny and I eachbought a quart of ice cream, skated to the island in the middle of our lake and ate them. Soooo good and soooo naughty. It keeps us young to be naughty sometimes. I would just go for it an enjoy!"

"Well, as someone who has tasted a lot of chai tea, I can attest that this really is not very similar in taste to Chai. Chai tends to focus on the spices, whereas this tea’s focus is on the orange, with the spices being very gentle and more of an accent to the orange."

"How fun! I love drinking tea so I love that you have a whole blog related to reviewing them. One brand that I really love that I don’t see on your list is the Portsmouth Tea Company. When I lived in Boston I used to buy lots of their teas and they were oh so unique. They had some really great fruity and floral blends. It’s interesting that..."

My co-worker told me that she purchased this tea after having purchased the Matcha Latte at Seattle’s Best, and her and another co-worker purchased this because they believed it was what was served there. She stated to me today that “it didn’t seem the same exactly…it felt like their was something..."

"I’m not absolutely certain, but I believe that this is the concentrate that Seattle’s Best coffee shops use to make their matcha latte. The lattes I’ve enjoyed there were sweet with a definite melon flavor… and I have noticed that they sell other Tazo teas there. If it IS the concentrate that they use… I am..."

"Steph: Thank you for your information about the naranquilla. I didn’t find the flavor to be very tart at all – which is what I would have expected from the combination of lime and rhubarb. Perhaps the maraschino sweetened it up a bit and made it much more peach-like. It reminded me a bit of candied apricots or peaches."
