Ambassador Organics has a relatively small line of teas compared to most tea companies, but don’t let that fool you into thinking they are a small-time company. In fact, Ambassador Organics is one of the companies that I respect and admire the most.
The reason I enjoy this company, and it’s teas so much is because all of their teas are organic, Fair Trade AND Biodynamic. What all that means in layman’s terms is that because their teas are grown organically without artificial pesticides, their teas are healthier. Because they are Fair Trade certified, you know that the people involved in the production of this tea were treated (and paid) fairly. Fair trade’s strategic intent is to work with marginalized producers and workers in order to help them move towards economic self-sufficiency and stability.
And finally, these teas are all Biodynamic. According to the Ambassador Organics website, “Biodynamic is an agricultural systems approach based on the holistic principles of nature and its intrinsic relationship to minerals, plants, animals, humans and the cosmos.”
This particular tea, their Irish Breakfast tea, is a gorgeous example of how a simple yet strong black tea can be made into something special simply by improving the way it is grown and processed. Irish Breakfast teas remind me of my childhood, when my grandmother would fix me strong black tea laden with milk and sugar, and for that reason holds a special place in my heart. This particular Irish Breakfast is a fantastic example of what a proper breakfast tea should taste like. Strong, pure and never bitter or sharp. In fact this tea is quite mellow and without any hint of bitter aftertaste.
Ambassador Organics describes this tea as:
Ambassador Organics™ is pleased to introduce a premium line of tea bags and loose teas for the discerning tea drinker that is both certified organic and certified Biodynamic®. These teas have been sourced from dedicated Biodynamic producers in communities across the globe, exemplifying agriculture that respects all aspects of the environment, from soil to human being. From sustainable model farm cooperatives to fair trade and socially just tea estates, these teas have been grown with special care. All Ambassador Organics Whole Leaf Teas come in two styles: beautiful tins with fifteen fine tea bags, or the same attractive tins with 3.4 ounces of loose tea for those customers who prefer their own steepware. Our tea bags are produced from non-GMO cane, and care has been taken to ensure that packaging exceeds industry standards for sustainability and environmental responsibility.
This robust black tea blend assures a strong, eye-opening morning cup of the purest quality.
Good Food Organics™ is the umbrella company under which the Ambassador Organics™ brand is held. Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun founded Good Food Organics™ in 2005 with the intention of creating a foundation for foods produced from agricultural systems that are certified USDA Organic, and, whenever possible, Certified Demeter Biodynamic and Certified Fair Trade as well.
This is a tea company that you can feel REALLY good about buying from! And this tea is absolutely delicious as well. Ambassador Organics Irish Breakfast tea is by far the highest quality Irish Breakfast tea I have ever tasted, and is indeed robust. You can actually taste the difference between the quality in this tea and in other brands, and the packaging is both attractive and functional at the same time! If you like a good, hearty black tea with a smooth malty character, this is the tea to buy, and it helps our planet at the same time. The Tea Review Blog would like to give Ms. Braun a big two thumbs up for creating such a caring and purposeful company with blissfully delicious teas!

"Well, as someone who has tasted a lot of chai tea, I can attest that this really is not very similar in taste to Chai. Chai tends to focus on the spices, whereas this tea’s focus is on the orange, with the spices being very gentle and more of an accent to the orange."

"How fun! I love drinking tea so I love that you have a whole blog related to reviewing them. One brand that I really love that I don’t see on your list is the Portsmouth Tea Company. When I lived in Boston I used to buy lots of their teas and they were oh so unique. They had some really great fruity and floral blends. It’s interesting that..."

"Haha!! My co-worker told me that she purchased this tea after having purchased the Matcha Latte at Seattle’s Best, and her and another co-worker purchased this because they believed it was what was served there. She stated to me today that “it didn’t seem the same exactly…it felt like their was something..."

"I’m not absolutely certain, but I believe that this is the concentrate that Seattle’s Best coffee shops use to make their matcha latte. The lattes I’ve enjoyed there were sweet with a definite melon flavor… and I have noticed that they sell other Tazo teas there. If it IS the concentrate that they use… I am..."

"Steph: Thank you for your information about the naranquilla. I didn’t find the flavor to be very tart at all – which is what I would have expected from the combination of lime and rhubarb. Perhaps the maraschino sweetened it up a bit and made it much more peach-like. It reminded me a bit of candied apricots or peaches."
