When I saw this tea, my jaw just dropped. I mean, who was the genius that combined chocolate and chai?! And more importantly, why have I not had this yet! I mean, chai and hot chocolate are my two favorite comfort/warming drinks that I have when I’m tired, sleepy, or just in a cuddly, cozy mood.
California Tea House describes this tea as:
Hot, spicy chocolate… need we say more? Here’s the more: cocoa kernels, natural cinnamon sticks, chicory root pieces, cardamom blooms, fresh-cut ginger root, cloves, pink peppers, and coconut preserves. Perfect with milk and sugar.
Use 2 heaping tablespoons of Chocolate Chai for each cup of boiling mineral water and steep for 7-10 minutes. This tea is good hot or on ice. Naturally caffeine free.
The first thing you notice is the scent. It doesn’t smell like milk chocolate, but rather, healthy bittersweet type chocolate and the scent is nice and strong and gets your mouth watering right away in anticipation. The bulk of this tea is large brown bits, which are the ground up spices. But then there are giant pieces of stuff such as cocoa kernels and cinnamon. I bit into a big piece of something, and it turned out to be a big peel of ginger! The cocoa kernels were fun to look at too.
The taste is not a disappointment! First, your mouth picks up the delicious chocolate flavor, then it is hit by all the spicy chai spices. I tried it first without any added milk, but this is a real rich flavor and while it is delicious alone, your mouth almost expects a creamy flavor so I added some milk. I found this to be a perfect blend of a high quality hot chocolate and a good cup of chai. The tastes go as good together as I had hoped. It’s also perfect for a desert tea because it is sweet, chocolaty, low calorie, has ginger (which is great for digestion) and is naturally caffeine free. Two thumbs up from me on this delicious blend.

"When I was a kid, in the middle of winter, my friend Penny and I eachbought a quart of ice cream, skated to the island in the middle of our lake and ate them. Soooo good and soooo naughty. It keeps us young to be naughty sometimes. I would just go for it an enjoy!"

"Well, as someone who has tasted a lot of chai tea, I can attest that this really is not very similar in taste to Chai. Chai tends to focus on the spices, whereas this tea’s focus is on the orange, with the spices being very gentle and more of an accent to the orange."

"How fun! I love drinking tea so I love that you have a whole blog related to reviewing them. One brand that I really love that I don’t see on your list is the Portsmouth Tea Company. When I lived in Boston I used to buy lots of their teas and they were oh so unique. They had some really great fruity and floral blends. It’s interesting that..."

"Haha!! My co-worker told me that she purchased this tea after having purchased the Matcha Latte at Seattle’s Best, and her and another co-worker purchased this because they believed it was what was served there. She stated to me today that “it didn’t seem the same exactly…it felt like their was something..."

"I’m not absolutely certain, but I believe that this is the concentrate that Seattle’s Best coffee shops use to make their matcha latte. The lattes I’ve enjoyed there were sweet with a definite melon flavor… and I have noticed that they sell other Tazo teas there. If it IS the concentrate that they use… I am..."

"Steph: Thank you for your information about the naranquilla. I didn’t find the flavor to be very tart at all – which is what I would have expected from the combination of lime and rhubarb. Perhaps the maraschino sweetened it up a bit and made it much more peach-like. It reminded me a bit of candied apricots or peaches."
