Midori Sencha from American Tea Room

This tea is part of American Tea Room’s Special Reserve teas, and is definitely special!  I’m really loving this tea!

The tea is gorgeous!  The organic Sencha tea leaves are long and graceful-looking, and are amid a lovely sprinkling of beautiful flower petals.  The scent is also rewarding, reminding me of the fresh, delicious fruits of summer.  The flavor mimics the scent, ripe with the flavor profiles of sweet, juicy melons.

American Tea Room describes their Midori Sencha as:

A blend of lightly steamed organic sencha with two types of Japanese Melon creates a rich and fruity delight both iced or warm

Sencha is a Japanese green tea, and is definitely one of my favorites because it offers a smooth flavor without the strong grassy overtone that is attributed to green teas.  Sencha does possess some of the vegetal flavor, but it’s very slight, more of a mild undertone than other green teas I’ve tried, without bitterness.  The flavor is fresh and invigorating, smooth and mellow.

And the Sencha tea plays very nicely with the melon flavor.  The melon flavor is not unlike what you might expect:  sweet, fruity, and fresh-tasting (like biting into a ripe, juicy cantaloupe or honeydew melon), which is a perfect pairing for the naturally sweet, lively notes of the Sencha.

This would make a very lovely and refreshing iced tea, perhaps with a little mint!  A remarkably delicious, smooth green tea!  I love it!
