Ceylon OP1 from Teas Etc

ceylon OP1 teas etcThe thing about Ceylon (Sri Lanka) teas is, they are a lot like India teas, but usually less expensive. That’s why Ceylon teas are often used as a base for flavored teas. One doesn’t often get to drink an unflavored Ceylon tea.

But there’s no reason not to! They taste just as good as many India teas do on their own. In fact, if this tea had come to me in a sack marked as “Darjeeling” I wouldn’t have seen or tasted anything to contradict that – to anyone short of an expert tea taster, this tea has the body, briskness, and roundness of a Darjeeling.

The leaves are long and slightly curled and very dark brown; the tea brews up a dark brown as well. One can steep this for as long as 5 minutes without any bitterness.

Teas Etc. says about this tea:

Winner 2009 World Tea Championship, Signature Famous Teas, Hot Tea Class, try it!

A refreshingly simple black tea with a smooth medium body and a sweet finish. Perfect for those quiet, laid back occasions.

From the mountains of Sri Lanka, this tea is tasty hot or iced.

I agree that it also makes a good iced tea. Iced, it can take a little or even a lot of sugar; hot, if you like milk in your tea, the flavor of this is strong enough to stand up to milk – but the slight bit of natural sweetness in the blend means you don’t have to add either sugar or milk – try a sip first without them!
