This beautiful tea impresses one before you even taste it. The fragrance of the dried leaves is stunning, just exactly like you would expect true vanilla bean and black tea to smell! The black tea leaves and vanilla beans are finely ground, with a bluish sheen to a black background.
This tea is a study in vanilla perfection. When brewed, the tea brews up to a light-to-medium-bodied black tea, similar to a Nilgiri or Ceylon. There is a slight tangy note in the background, but for the most part there is a lovely mild black tea flavor to compliment the natural vanilla notes.
Golden Moon Tea describes this tea as:
Madagascar mixes rich black tea with slices of real vanilla bean to produce a deep flavor that incorporates notes of dark rum, sweet earth and tropical flowers. Both smooth and exotic, this loose leaf tea is great served with buttered toast as a special morning treat.
Our Madagascar Tea is a unique blend of black tea and vanilla leaves. The flavor of the tea leaf is rich and dark while the flavor of the vanilla is mellow, rich, sweet and mysterious with caramel-like depth resulting in a rich but smooth tea drink.
The physical characteristics of the leaf are also important for the overall quality of the tea. With an even, medium sized leaf that supports multiple infusions, a tea is created with unsurpassed quality.
We believe that our Madagascar is the best vanilla tea on the market. Authentic vanilla bean pod slices bring visual beauty and exotic flavor and combine with our quality black tea base to produce a tea with an exquisite smooth flavor at a low cost per cup.
This one makes an absolutely perfect afternoon tea, and is a must-have for vanilla lovers. I enjoyed this one with added sweetener, although it has a mild sweetness on its own as well. A *slight* drop of cream or milk (I suggest Very Vanilla Soy Milk) can add a lovely enhanced creamy note to this tea; however too much milk and it will overwhelm the flavors and will end up tasting like watered down milk. With this tea, it’s all about balance.

"When I was a kid, in the middle of winter, my friend Penny and I eachbought a quart of ice cream, skated to the island in the middle of our lake and ate them. Soooo good and soooo naughty. It keeps us young to be naughty sometimes. I would just go for it an enjoy!"

"Well, as someone who has tasted a lot of chai tea, I can attest that this really is not very similar in taste to Chai. Chai tends to focus on the spices, whereas this tea’s focus is on the orange, with the spices being very gentle and more of an accent to the orange."

"How fun! I love drinking tea so I love that you have a whole blog related to reviewing them. One brand that I really love that I don’t see on your list is the Portsmouth Tea Company. When I lived in Boston I used to buy lots of their teas and they were oh so unique. They had some really great fruity and floral blends. It’s interesting that..."

"Haha!! My co-worker told me that she purchased this tea after having purchased the Matcha Latte at Seattle’s Best, and her and another co-worker purchased this because they believed it was what was served there. She stated to me today that “it didn’t seem the same exactly…it felt like their was something..."

"I’m not absolutely certain, but I believe that this is the concentrate that Seattle’s Best coffee shops use to make their matcha latte. The lattes I’ve enjoyed there were sweet with a definite melon flavor… and I have noticed that they sell other Tazo teas there. If it IS the concentrate that they use… I am..."

"Steph: Thank you for your information about the naranquilla. I didn’t find the flavor to be very tart at all – which is what I would have expected from the combination of lime and rhubarb. Perhaps the maraschino sweetened it up a bit and made it much more peach-like. It reminded me a bit of candied apricots or peaches."
