Meditative Mind from The Tea Spot

Meditative Mind

This is one of the best Jasmine Pearl blends I’ve tried!  OK, so I haven’t tried a lot of them, but of the handful or so that I have tried, this one ranks at the top.

When I read Tea Guru’s glowing review of this tea some months ago, I knew I had to try it.  I mean, jasmine pearls?  White tea?  And roses?  Yes, I was confident that this tea would enchant me, and enchant me, it has.

The aroma and appearance captured my attention immediately.  The fragrance was very floral, with the lovely scent of rose and jasmine filling the air upon opening the package.  The essence of the tea is difficult to discern at this phase, because the flowery fragrance is very strong.  But I wasn’t worried, because this is typical of many floral scented teas.

The Tea Spot is not specific about the type of white tea that is used here, only that it is from China.   However, the leaves are quite large, whole, and are soft and fuzzy, much like a high quality Bai Mu Dan (or White Peony) tea.  The rosebuds are plentiful, and BIG in this blend, creating a very beautiful arrangement of leaves and flowers, much like a potpourri.  And of course, there are my beloved jasmine pearls.  And not just one or two tossed in there (as is often the case with jasmine pearl blends, which tend to be heavy on the other ingredients, and light on the more costly jasmine pearls)… there is quite a plentiful supply of the little rolled pellets.  This tea is dazzling to the eye!

But, let’s face it, the way it looks or smells doesn’t mean a whole lot if it doesn’t taste good – and this tea tastes great!  The green and white teas are very harmonious in this blend, not competing with one another, but working together to bring out the best qualities in each.  There is a delicate, slightly sweet flavor from the white tea, and the gentle earthiness of the green.  The jasmine and rose also work very pleasantly together, creating a soft sweetness that is quite feminine and absolutely charming.

The Tea Spot describes this tea as

Our best seller! This blend of pure Chinese white tea, rosebuds and jasmine pearls creates an experience of aromatherapy that sharpens the mind and arouses the senses. The floral, exotic scent of night–blooming Jasmine is uplifting and soothing, and is used as an anti-depressant in herbal medicine. Rosebuds are used to ease nervous tension and stress, and have a calming effect on the mind. This combination works together to enhance the light, subtle flavor of the white tea leaves. This tea brews into a golden liquor with a very soothing fragrance, and is perfect before, during, or after a stressful day.

This tea is very aptly named, as it does have a meditative quality to it, creating a sense of calm and uplifting the spirits.   I recommend that this tea be consumed hot; I noticed that as it cools, the flavors become a bit muddled, and I really enjoyed the distinction of each characteristic that a hot cup delivered.  No sweetener is needed for this tea to enjoy it, but I found that a small amount of agave nectar brought out some of the softer aspects of the rose and jasmine.

If you are a fan of jasmine teas, I recommend giving this tea a try – you won’t be disappointed!
