Liquorice and Mint from Teapigs

Liquorice and Mint from Teapigs

This tea just landed from it’s trans-Atlantic flight all the way from the United Kingdom to “The Midwest”, USA and I like it so much that I just have to review it right away! It even talked me into taking my own photo (as seen to the left) with its sweetness.

Teapigs describes this tea as:

What makes liquorice and mint so special? Well liquorice, for a start, which has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine, is hugely popular with the Dutch and tastes so much better with peppermint than sherbet dips. Which is why, we’ve blended pure liquorice root with whole peppermint leaves to create a naturally sweet and refreshing drink that is irresistibly moreish.

Compare the large leaf in our tea temples to the dust in your regular tea bag; whole leaf is best.

Not being from Britain, I had to look up the meaning of moreish. It means “so good that you want more”. A tea review and a vocabulary lesson!

They also say this about the tea:

Taste:
Sweet, liquorice, mint and sweet again.

Try it:
Infused for a full 3 minutes – the longer you leave this blend the sweeter it gets.

Good if you’re feeling:
In need of a little treat or alternatively in need of a tea to soothe a sore throat.

I recommend brewing the tea in boiling water for 3-10 minutes, the longer the better (as they suggested as well), to make it REALLY potent. When I say this tea gets really intense, I mean REALLY REALLY intense. I usually add some ice or cold water so I can drink it right away, and if it’s brewed really potent then I don’t mind thinning it out. The peppermint that Teapigs uses is the strongest peppermint I’ve come in contact with to date. If you want a more mild cup, brew with cooler water for less time.

Another thing I just have to mention is how much I like Teapigs’ packaging. Each tea has its own graphics and color scheme, printed on natural packaging. The tea bags (“temples”) are biodegradable and they suggest recycling their packaging. I like to support environmentally aware companies!
