When it comes to mint flavored tea, I confess myself to be somewhat finicky, especially when it comes to mint green teas. This is because all too often the mint flavor is so strong that it overwhelms the more delicate green tea base. I don’t necessarily dislike the strong minty flavor, but, when I am drinking a green tea, I do like to be able to taste the green tea.
So, I wasn’t confident when I first opened the package of this Moroccan Mint tea from Golden Moon Tea because the fragrance is very strongly MINT … and I worried that the scent foreshadowed the flavor and this would be another case where the mint flavor crushes the green tea.
Fortunately, that is not the case. This is one of the best mint green teas I’ve ever tried; it is perfectly balanced. The flavors do not compete with one another, instead, they each play their role to highlight their own strengths. The slightly sharp, vegetal quality of the gunpowder green tea is contrasted with the fresh, lively high notes of the spearmint and peppermint. There is a slight astringency, and when combined with the refreshing characteristics of the mint, it washes over the palate with a cool, clean sensation.
Golden Moon Tea describes this tea as
Imagine the blast of the hot winds off the Moroccan Sahara Desert and a hot dusty journey to the packed and crowded Moroccan Bazaar. Your thirst is overwhelming!
Now imagine the cool, crisp and refreshing taste of an iced frosty glass of Moroccan Mint Tea – totally thirst quenching!
In the evening as the cold desert winds blow through, imagine a hot, warming mug of steaming Moroccan Mint tea – warming and soothing!
Since we’ve been experiencing some rather cold rains over the past couple of days, I drank this tea hot, but, as it cooled in my teacup, I noticed that the flavors remained intense, suggesting to me that this would make an excellent choice to serve as an iced tea as well as a hot tea.
I do recommend adding just a small amount of sweetener to this tea, as it helps to bring the flavors into focus. Also quite delicious in this tea is a thin slice of lemon (lemon and mint make such an enchanting combination, don’t they?) or perhaps some lime. Another excellent tea from Golden Moon Tea!

"When I was a kid, in the middle of winter, my friend Penny and I eachbought a quart of ice cream, skated to the island in the middle of our lake and ate them. Soooo good and soooo naughty. It keeps us young to be naughty sometimes. I would just go for it an enjoy!"

"Well, as someone who has tasted a lot of chai tea, I can attest that this really is not very similar in taste to Chai. Chai tends to focus on the spices, whereas this tea’s focus is on the orange, with the spices being very gentle and more of an accent to the orange."

"How fun! I love drinking tea so I love that you have a whole blog related to reviewing them. One brand that I really love that I don’t see on your list is the Portsmouth Tea Company. When I lived in Boston I used to buy lots of their teas and they were oh so unique. They had some really great fruity and floral blends. It’s interesting that..."

"Haha!! My co-worker told me that she purchased this tea after having purchased the Matcha Latte at Seattle’s Best, and her and another co-worker purchased this because they believed it was what was served there. She stated to me today that “it didn’t seem the same exactly…it felt like their was something..."

"I’m not absolutely certain, but I believe that this is the concentrate that Seattle’s Best coffee shops use to make their matcha latte. The lattes I’ve enjoyed there were sweet with a definite melon flavor… and I have noticed that they sell other Tazo teas there. If it IS the concentrate that they use… I am..."

"Steph: Thank you for your information about the naranquilla. I didn’t find the flavor to be very tart at all – which is what I would have expected from the combination of lime and rhubarb. Perhaps the maraschino sweetened it up a bit and made it much more peach-like. It reminded me a bit of candied apricots or peaches."
