Quite a subtle chai compared to others I have had but nonetheless, quite a lovely tea to drink! It is an especially welcome drink on a cool autumn day.
Tea leaves are long and dark coloured. There are pieces of the spices visible, such as cinnamon, cloves and cardamon. The colours remind me of autumn, with shades of orange, tans, and light yellow. Once brewed, the tea is a deep shade of tan.
Although not as as strong smelling as other chai teas, the spicy scent of this tea is quite welcome this time of year, especially with the holidays almost upon us. While I love chai all year long, I especially enjoy it this time of year since I find it to be such a comforting drink on a cold day! The spicy scent reminds me of a crisp, autumn day and holiday baking.
The mild scent of this tea is also reflected in the taste. While I’m accustomed to drinking some quite robust chai, this one is not at all over-strong. Don’t take this as a negative though; I still thoroughly enjoyed this tea. It is perfect for those looking for a chai that is a little less robust. The spices all blend quite well together. While they are subtle, cinnamon is the most prominent one. There is also a hint of cloves, nutmeg and maybe a bit of ginger lingering in the background. Overall, the drink is very smooth and quite pleasant to sip.
Golden Moon Tea describes this tea as:
Kashmiri Chai is an exotic, spiced loose leaf tea from the Himalayas of Northern India.
Aromatic and warming, natives of India often comment that the authentic and delicious recipe reminds them of home. Serve with cream and honey for a rich treat.Ingredients: Finest black & green tea, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and spice oil
I let this tea steep for longer than I normally do with a chai. Give it a try after three minutes, and if its not quite where you want the flavour, let it steep for a bit longer. I let it steep for about five minutes. This allowed for the perfect flavour for me to develop. It did not get bitter at all! Rarely do I drink chai in the traditional way, which is with milk. I did add a bit of sweetener to this one though (Splenda) and this made for quite a delicious treat! The sweetener seemed to enhance the flavours of the spices just a bit more. I’m sure this tea would be great with the addition of milk as well. Enjoy this tea however you normally would!
If you’re looking for a less robust chai blend, I highly recommend this tea. With the traditional chai scent without an overly robust flavour, this tea makes for a nice, subtly spicy tea, on a crisp autumn day. It is also the perfect accompaniment with any holiday treats!
