Despite the name, this tea is not just for tummy troubles! This is a very pure, strong peppermint tea – just peppermint, nothing else – that tastes refreshing any time.
I received a package of 15 “biodegradable tea temples” – mesh sachets that allow for lots of water flow, so that one gets the strongest possible mint flavor. (And since they’re biodegradable, one can throw them on one’s compost pile, if one has a compost pile, and instantly improve the atmosphere in the pile as well as contribute to future mulch.)
Since this herbal tea is caffeine-free, one can drink it late at night, and what I’ve found that it’s great for is, with a bit of honey in it, is first inhaling the steam to clear my nose of the winter stuffies, and then drinking it to soothe my throat from the postnasal drip of said winter nose-nasties. It will, I’m sure, be equally useful for spring and fall allergy seasons.
Teapigs says this about this tea:
As with our normal teas, we insist that our herbal ones always use the whole leaf or flower. The leaf should be worshipped, not crushed. You’ll find the mint will be fresher and finer than any teabag mint you have tasted before.
Mint is well known to be a great tummy tonic, so sip this when your stomach is grumbling.
Compare the leaf in our tea temples to the dust in your regular tea bag; whole leaf is best.
Taste:
Pure mint – so, as you’d expect a strong minty taste, then. Very refreshing, very light.Try it:
Pure. Or try a mini blend of 1 Peppermint Leaves tea temple and 1 Chocolate Flake – voilà! Mint choc chip!Good if you’re feeling: Unpleasant to be around. This helps to eradicate toxic breath and a dodgy stomach.
Teapigs is a UK company, but their web site helpfully allows one to display prices in US dollars as well as GB pounds, so they are clearly set up for US orders as well as UK.
If you are using this for tummy troubles, may I suggest dropping in a piece of ginger – candied if you want it sweet, or just a slice of ginger root. Ginger is also an excellent tummy settler, and I love eating the tea-soaked piece of ginger after I finish my tea!

"When I was a kid, in the middle of winter, my friend Penny and I eachbought a quart of ice cream, skated to the island in the middle of our lake and ate them. Soooo good and soooo naughty. It keeps us young to be naughty sometimes. I would just go for it an enjoy!"

"Well, as someone who has tasted a lot of chai tea, I can attest that this really is not very similar in taste to Chai. Chai tends to focus on the spices, whereas this tea’s focus is on the orange, with the spices being very gentle and more of an accent to the orange."

"How fun! I love drinking tea so I love that you have a whole blog related to reviewing them. One brand that I really love that I don’t see on your list is the Portsmouth Tea Company. When I lived in Boston I used to buy lots of their teas and they were oh so unique. They had some really great fruity and floral blends. It’s interesting that..."

"Haha!! My co-worker told me that she purchased this tea after having purchased the Matcha Latte at Seattle’s Best, and her and another co-worker purchased this because they believed it was what was served there. She stated to me today that “it didn’t seem the same exactly…it felt like their was something..."

"I’m not absolutely certain, but I believe that this is the concentrate that Seattle’s Best coffee shops use to make their matcha latte. The lattes I’ve enjoyed there were sweet with a definite melon flavor… and I have noticed that they sell other Tazo teas there. If it IS the concentrate that they use… I am..."

"Steph: Thank you for your information about the naranquilla. I didn’t find the flavor to be very tart at all – which is what I would have expected from the combination of lime and rhubarb. Perhaps the maraschino sweetened it up a bit and made it much more peach-like. It reminded me a bit of candied apricots or peaches."
