Black Cherry Berry from Celestial Seasonings

black cherry berry Celestial SeasoningsThis tea has a strong cherry aroma – in fact, it starts to smell a little bit like cherry cough syrup. Luckily, it does not taste like cherry cough syrup. Instead, it tastes like a fruit punch, but without the sickly sweetness. It’s a very *red* taste – accented by the hibiscus and rosehips that are also in the blend. There’s also roasted chicory root in here – I know that regular readers of this blog are sick and tired of hearing me rave about chicory root, but it really does add a deeper taste, an edge that offsets too much sweetness, that makes these herbal teas taste darker than many herbal blends do.

Celestial Seasonings say about this tea:

This tea’s luscious flavor is reminiscent of the red fruit punch we drank as children – of course, our version is 100% natural. A burst of American cherries is made even livelier by the sweetness of Oriental blackberry leaves. Delicious hot or iced, this blend takes you back to orchards of ripe, juicy cherries waiting to be made into succulent pies.

The ingredients also include hawthorn and chamomile, more flavors that keep the blend from tasting too sweet.

I like this tea iced, too. Since it is more tart than you’d expect of berry and cherry, you may want to add a pinch of sugar to it as iced tea.

And, as with most Celestial Seasonings teas, it’s in the convenient form of tea bags, which makes it easy to think of this for your late-night cup, when you don’t want caffeine OR a fuss, and with the chamomile in it, there’s one more reason to have this as a bedtime sip!
