This tea tastes just like chocolate chips! Although on some of Zen Tara Tea’s webpages, they have this tea listed as Chocolate Cream Tea, you will notice both the Chocolate Cream Tea link on the black teas page and the Chocolate Chip Cream Tea link on the flavored teas page both lead to the same teas.
And a delicious tea it is! In Zen Tara’s description of this tea, they mention that it tastes like hot chocolate, which it does in a way, however I would say that it definitively tastes like a real chocolate chip. At any rate, it’s a chocoholics dream, with a rich deep black tea base, both chocolate and vanilla flavors and huge chocolate chips.
Zen Tara Tea describes this tea as:
Maybe the best way to describe this tea is to quote one of our customers – “It’s amazing, like a cup of hot chocolate without all the extra calories and caffeine.” Personally, we don’t find the chocolate and hint of vanilla flavors to be quite that strong. The medium bodied black tea holds up well to the chocolate notes and helps create a tea blend that is both a pick-me-up and a bit of an indulgent treat. A great midmorning or afternoon tea.
PREPARATION: Heat water to a boil 212˚F and add one teaspoon loose leaf tea per cup (apprx. 8 ounces). Infuse the tea leaves for 3–4 minutes depending on taste preference. Drink plain or with milk and a sweetener if so desired. Rumor has it that a small dab of whipped cream on the top makes for a wonderful after dinner tea dessert beverage.
INGREDIENTS: Organic black tea, organic chocolate pieces, organic chocolate and vanilla flavor. Tea Origin: India.
This tea is best served hot with a dash of milk for a creamier flavor and sugar to make it taste more like real chocolate chips. It really is close enough to hot cocoa that you could even add miniature marshmallows for an extra treat if you wanted. Although I really enjoyed serving this one piping hot with a nice big squirt of whipped cream and sprinkles of chocolate on top.

"When I was a kid, in the middle of winter, my friend Penny and I eachbought a quart of ice cream, skated to the island in the middle of our lake and ate them. Soooo good and soooo naughty. It keeps us young to be naughty sometimes. I would just go for it an enjoy!"

"Well, as someone who has tasted a lot of chai tea, I can attest that this really is not very similar in taste to Chai. Chai tends to focus on the spices, whereas this tea’s focus is on the orange, with the spices being very gentle and more of an accent to the orange."

"How fun! I love drinking tea so I love that you have a whole blog related to reviewing them. One brand that I really love that I don’t see on your list is the Portsmouth Tea Company. When I lived in Boston I used to buy lots of their teas and they were oh so unique. They had some really great fruity and floral blends. It’s interesting that..."

My co-worker told me that she purchased this tea after having purchased the Matcha Latte at Seattle’s Best, and her and another co-worker purchased this because they believed it was what was served there. She stated to me today that “it didn’t seem the same exactly…it felt like their was something..."

"I’m not absolutely certain, but I believe that this is the concentrate that Seattle’s Best coffee shops use to make their matcha latte. The lattes I’ve enjoyed there were sweet with a definite melon flavor… and I have noticed that they sell other Tazo teas there. If it IS the concentrate that they use… I am..."

"Steph: Thank you for your information about the naranquilla. I didn’t find the flavor to be very tart at all – which is what I would have expected from the combination of lime and rhubarb. Perhaps the maraschino sweetened it up a bit and made it much more peach-like. It reminded me a bit of candied apricots or peaches."
