Here in China getting fancy tea mixtures isn’t that common. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of fancy brands here, but what you see more often when shopping for tea is glass jars full of tea (black, green, pu-er etc) with packages of flavoring accessories nearby. These dried lemon slices are made, and sold, for the sole purpose of adding it to your tea! Why buy a box of Lemon Zinger in the store when you can make it yourself, right?

There are lots of different tea additions (such as flowers, sugar crystals etc some of which I will review soon) but these lemon wedges are my favorite. They seem very pure, just dried lemon, and they add just a nice tang of flavor to your cup of tea. This is the brand from the supermarket I shop at sometimes. It seems almost every store carried their own brand of dried lemons, similar to the store brands in American supermarkets.

I’ve added these wedges into black tea, green tea and jasmine tea and it takes great in all three. When you leave it in a cup of tea it does slightly rehydrate a bit and plump up, but isn’t as flavorful as a fresh lemon wedge. Some people might think that is a negative, but I think it is a positive as sometimes lemons can be too tangy and add too much flavor altering the taste of the tea in a negative way. Also, the seeds are not removed and they can float into your cup so you do need to be careful.

I also really like the smell of the lemon straight from the bag. Very fresh and zesty. In fact, if I was making a potpourri blend I would definitely add this for the citrus fresh scent. It is delicious both in and outside your cup of tea!
