I started drinking tea when I was just 2 or 3 years old. My grandmother served it with lunch everyday regardless of the meal pairing. Ironically her last name started with a “T” so we all called her Grandma T. Tea with Grandma T is one of my fondest memories! I will treasure it as long as I live. My memories of her grow on as does my love for tea.
My grandmother usually served plain black bagged tea. I enjoy both bagged as loose leaf to this day but have branched out to all sorts of different teas throughout the years. It’s almost like a treasure hunt of sorts.
Assam Melody by Adagio is sort of like a treasure hunt. Sure you can read the description and reviews from other people but each time I taste it there is a little something different. Just that little something that makes you wonder what’s there but sometimes forgotten by most. Perhaps it isn’t an ingredient in the actual tea blend but an affect of the tea itself…a melody…either way this tea gives you something to ponder…something to think about…something to meditate on.
This has a very earthy scent and black tea scent. After steeping it turns a tad smoky. It does have a rich black tea flavor with a hint of smoke poking through. The color of tea after steeping is a rich reddish-brown. A great way to wake up or a nice afternoon tea. I have even tried it iced and it’s also nice.
Adagio describes this tea as:
Black tea from the Assam region of India. Assam tea brews up a burgundy-red cup with rich aroma and strong malty taste. The latter makes Assam an ideal breakfast-time tea. The ‘Assam Melody’ is a flavorful second-flush (summer) tea from the well-regarded Meleng estate.
This is one of those teas that I think Grandma T would have loved. We would sit there at the kitchen table eating our vegetable “lima bean” soup that she would make ’special’ for me, sipping tea, playing ‘Go Fish’, and enjoying the rest of our day together. Yeah…this is one of those teas that remind me of my grandmother so I will surely put it on my favorites list and will have to re-order soon!

"When I was a kid, in the middle of winter, my friend Penny and I eachbought a quart of ice cream, skated to the island in the middle of our lake and ate them. Soooo good and soooo naughty. It keeps us young to be naughty sometimes. I would just go for it an enjoy!"

"Well, as someone who has tasted a lot of chai tea, I can attest that this really is not very similar in taste to Chai. Chai tends to focus on the spices, whereas this tea’s focus is on the orange, with the spices being very gentle and more of an accent to the orange."

"How fun! I love drinking tea so I love that you have a whole blog related to reviewing them. One brand that I really love that I don’t see on your list is the Portsmouth Tea Company. When I lived in Boston I used to buy lots of their teas and they were oh so unique. They had some really great fruity and floral blends. It’s interesting that..."

"Haha!! My co-worker told me that she purchased this tea after having purchased the Matcha Latte at Seattle’s Best, and her and another co-worker purchased this because they believed it was what was served there. She stated to me today that “it didn’t seem the same exactly…it felt like their was something..."

"I’m not absolutely certain, but I believe that this is the concentrate that Seattle’s Best coffee shops use to make their matcha latte. The lattes I’ve enjoyed there were sweet with a definite melon flavor… and I have noticed that they sell other Tazo teas there. If it IS the concentrate that they use… I am..."

"Steph: Thank you for your information about the naranquilla. I didn’t find the flavor to be very tart at all – which is what I would have expected from the combination of lime and rhubarb. Perhaps the maraschino sweetened it up a bit and made it much more peach-like. It reminded me a bit of candied apricots or peaches."
