Yunnan Jig from Adagio Teas

Yunnan Jig from AdagioYou know… there are just some teas you are glad you made the purchase.  This would be one of them for me!  Adagio’s Yunnan Jig.

Its scent is not overbearing by any means. There isn’t too much of one scent but it’s reminiscent of several things. Typical black tea color. Taste strength is medium to medium–strong depending on how you steep it and right at the end of the sip there’s almost an upward sweetness. Great cup to start the day!

This is also a very forgiving loose leaf.  I accidentally oversteeped it drastically and it was still tasty.  It wasn’t bitter and was still a nice cup of tea.  As you can see below, that is what Adagio even says in their description, so in my experience it’s pretty true to it’s promise.

Adagio describes this tea as:

Black tea from the Yunnan region of China. Yunnan tea is easily identified by its luscious soft leaves, and a unique peppery taste. It is a very forgiving tea; will not taste bitter when over-steeped. Yunnan tea is arguably the most underrated of Chinese varieties. If you have yet to try it, we would recommend it highly. The ‘Yunnan Jig’ would make a great introduction.

When I got to the end of my sample tin I noticed that in my last cup of Yunnan Jig there was a smokiness to it and the aftertaste of my last cup had a slight cigar taste to it.  Again, it could have been due to the amount of loose leaf I steeped or for the length or even the temperature of the water… who knows.  All-in-all I am really glad I bought this tea from Adagio.
