Long Island Strawberry Sencha from Culinary Teas

Long Island Strawberry SenchaI’ve tried (and reviewed) several strawberry blends lately, but that’s alright with me.  I love strawberries!

And this Long Island Strawberry Sencha reminds me of a plump, ripe strawberry – sweet, sumptuous, and just a hint of tartness that tingles on the tongue.  It’s so delicious!

The Japanese Sencha is smooth and mellow with only a slight grassy undertone.  I think that perhaps the fresh note of the Sencha tea is what gives this tea such a unique flavor.  The fresh, vegetative note of the green tea together with the sun-ripened flavor of the strawberry creates one very vibrant cup of tea!

Although the ingredients list freeze dried papaya in addition to the strawberry bits, I don’t really taste the papaya, all I taste is delicious strawberry and the Sencha tea.

Culinary Teas describes this tea as:

This sencha based tea is the best strawberry green we have ever tasted! Tart and sweet and as strong as a strawberry puree. Incredible iced and delicious hot.

While this tea does have some natural sweetness to it, I do think that some sweetener is absolutely essential in this tea to bring out its delightful strawberry character, but don’t add too much or you’ll lose some of the pleasant tartness.

This is one of those rare teas that I think would actually taste better as an iced tea than as a hot tea.  There is just something about the strawberry flavor in this one that resonates “summer” and for me, summer means iced tea (although I do drink hot tea in the summer, there is nothing quite as thirst quenching as a glass of iced tea in the summertime).
