Why Organic Tea is a Better Choice

Organic foods are gaining in popularity as the public becomes more aware of the benefits of organically grown foods.  Organically grown tea is significantly better than non-organically grown tea.   Generally speaking, the quality is better and the resulting tea is better for you and your body.

Organically grown tea means that the tea is  grown without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.  The soil is enriched with natural compost and a layer of mulch retains the moisture while providing extra nutrients as it breaks down.  Other well-established organic agricultural practices, such as crop rotation, are also followed.

One of the largest benefits of organically grown tea, is that while with other foods such as fruits and vegetables, one is able to wash the food free of any chemicals or potential harmful substances before ingesting it.  With tea, this is impossible.  Therefore with organically grown tea, you are assured that no chemicals or chemical fertilizer is a part of your brew.

Tea which has been grown organically also benefits the tea farmer as well as the tea drinker as organically grown teaplants remain healthy throughout their lifetimes, reducing the need for replacement plants or chemically treated soil.  Just as those chemicals can negatively affect your body, it can also harm the tea plant, local wildlife and the earth itself.

Often organic products, including teas, will have a USDA Certified Organic seal on the packaging.  This seal ensures that the product is indeed organic. Farm fields which have been USDA certified organic have to be free of synthetic chemicals and fertilizers for at least 3 years and remain that way during their certification.

Organic teas also contain higher levels of antioxidants and catechins, which provide most of the health benefits tea has.  And organically sustained soil returns far higher crop yields as well.

The benefits of drinking organic tea are plentiful and convincing.  It tastes better and it’s healthier – for you AND the planet.  So go on…go organic!
