So, you might be asking, what is Tulsi?  I know that I did when I first read of it in an herbal tea blend a few months ago.  I passed up the opportunity to try it then, and after now trying this blend from Organic India, I am very disappointed that I was so reluctant to try it before.

To my knowledge, this is my first experience tasting Tulsi – a medicinal herb often used in Ayurveda.  The flavor is quite pleasing – although it is difficult to describe -  it is lightly spicy and compliments the rose essence quite well.  Organic India also utilizes stevia in this blend, which adds a hint of sweetness, and lemon myrtle, which brings a clean whisper of citrus flavor to the cup.

Because I do not have any prior first-hand knowledge of the flavor of Tulsi, it is a little difficult for me to begin describing the characteristics of Tulsi.  However, I do have quite a bit of experience tasting rose, lemon myrtle and stevia, and I can discern those flavors in the cup.

The rose offers its pleasant, sweet floral quality, not to mention its very pleasing aroma!  It is so enjoyable to sit here, with the cup strategically placed under my chin, and inhale the fragrance as I type.  Delightful!

The lemon myrtle is not a strong presence in the cup, yet the citrus-y flavor it brings is quite welcome as it offers such a pleasant contrast to the sweet, feminine flavor of the rose, and also seems to accent the spicy notes in the blend as well.  The stevia is also not a strong presence (thankfully!) but, I do recommend tasting the brewed tea before you add additional sweetener.  You may find that it’s just sweet enough.

Organic India describes this herbal tisane as

Exhale stress, Inhale sweet love.

A sensuous blend of organic rose petals and stress-relieving Tulsi.

* Abundant in Antioxidants
* Natural Immune System Booster
* Adaptogenic Stress Reliever
* Caffeine-Free

Tulsi Sweet Rose tea became our best seller overnight. It’s unlike anything on the market-fragrant, tantalizing, and deeply feminine. We combed the world to find organic rose petals to create this special tea and we can taste the difference.

This delicate blend of Tulsi leaves and organic rose petals, finely balanced with the soothing power of chamomile, the natural sweetness of organic stevia leaf, and a touch of lemon myrtle is a rich treat for your senses. You will feel genuine restoration from your first sip!

Tulsi (also known as Holy Basil) is a powerful healing herb that has been revered for centuries in India for its power to relieve stress and boost the body’s natural immune system. ORGANIC INDIA is the first company to bring Tulsi to the West as an organic tea. We work with thousands of farmers in India to cultivate the herb using environmentally sustainable methods, restoring vitality to the earth and dignity to its people.

In India, Rose is called ‘The Lotus of the Heart’ and is said to increase love and devotion.

I really enjoyed this herbal tisane from Organic India, and it has inspired me to seek out other Tulsi blends to try.  Hopefully, more Tulsi reviews will be coming soon!  I drank the tea hot, but, I noticed that as the tea cooled, the flavors did not mute, so I suspect it would be an excellent – not to mention very energizing – iced beverage as well.
