Oolong tea with peach flavoring – the combination seems almost perfect! After all, Oolong tea already possesses a peach-like flavor to it, so adding peach flavoring to the Oolong tea leaves accentuates the qualities inherent to the Oolong. Perfect!
Upon opening the package, I was greeted with the delightful scent of peach. It’s a very strong, delicious fragrance that becomes quite delicate upon brewing – delicate, but delicious!
Oolong tends to expand more than other tea leaves when they are brewed, so I am generally skeptical about bagged Oolongs. However, these large sachets of tea (which Zhena’s calls “Couture Tea Sachets”) are large enough to accommodate the expansion of the leaves well, and another bonus is that they are made from biodegradable corn silk! So you can simply toss the sachet right into the compost!
The flavor of this tea is simply marvelous. The peach flavor is silky smooth, and as I eluded to before, the flavor compliments the tea leaves well, allowing the tea and not the flavoring to be the star in this cup of tea.
The Oolong is slightly more fermented than many I’ve sampled lately – the leaves are more “brown” than “green.” But the flavor is no less complex – the tea has a lovely nutty flavor and a slight floral quality that lingers very pleasantly in the finish, as well as the prominent peach notes that evoke memories of summer’s sweet fruit.
Zhena’s Gyspy Tea describes this tea as
WELCOME TO THE FRAGRANT
AND DELICIOUS REALM
This tea is the result of carefully crafted blending, to ensure that the essential harmony of the botanicals healthful properties yield a superb tea experience.
One of the world’s most celebrated teas, this finest high mountain grown oolong offers the most complete tea drinking experience with the perfect balanced freshness of green teasand the full-bodied depth of black teas. An exceptional cup made even more entrancing with an enveloping teasing peach richness that is pure, floral and refined.
Ingredients: Oolong tea with natural peach flavor
This is a beautiful, medium bodied brew with a pleasant mouthfeel. There is very little astringency and no hint of bitterness. The flavor is profound enough that it would make a good tea to serve hot or iced. I do recommend a small amount of sweetener (I added a drizzle of agave nectar) to highlight the softer tones to this tea, although it is also quite pleasant without sweetener.
This is one of my favorites from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea, I highly recommend it!
