Zhejiang Silver Needle from Enjoying Tea

Zhejiang Silver Needle from Enjoying TeaAhhh… This tea is pampering me!

My favorite type of tea leaf is yellow tea, and this Zhejiang Silver Needle is very much like a yellow tea.  It has a certain sumptuousness to it – light, silky, and sweet – that reminds me of yellow tea.  The taste is very smooth and lovely!

The flavor is fresh tasting but without a strong vegetative quality – in fact, there is no grassy flavor to this at all.  It’s much more like the sweet nectar of a flower.

There is a very pleasant – yet delicate – mouthfeel to this tea.  It isn’t a thick mouthfeel that one might experience with a green Oolong tea… and yet, it’s much smoother and silkier than a typical green or white tea.  Very similar to the taste and texture of a yellow tea.

Enjoying Tea describes this tea as

This white tea with a white downy appearance comes from the province of Zhejiang. The Silver Needle, highest quality white tea, is picked during the spring before the buds open to preserve its tenderness. Exquisite and delicate, Silver Needle has a fresh, sweet fragrance and produces a pale yellow brew. Brewing with a Yixing teapot can best show the aroma of Silver Needle. This tea has high concentrations of polyphenols (antioxidants that help fight against cancer-causing radicals and heart disease).

I recommend drinking this one hot, because the light flavor of this tea proves to be just a little too delicate for iced tea.  But that’s ok… because in my opinion, hot teas are much more relaxing when they are hot.

Of the teas that I’ve tried thus far from Enjoying Teas, this one is my favorite.  It is the kind of tea that I would want to sip while soaking in a bubble bath.  It’s like a spa in a teacup!
