This blend is ideal for the former coffee drinker who finds themselves missing that morning cup o’joe. It has a flavor that is very similar to fresh roasted coffee, but without some of the harmful side effects that some of us (myself included) experience when drinking coffee. Those side effects are exactly why I switched from the occasional coffee drinker/tea drinker to the only-tea-and-never-coffee drinker that I am today.
I would experience terrible nausea within 2 or 3 hours after drinking coffee – something that I’ve never experienced with tea or even Yerba Maté. And even though I prefer the flavor of tea (and Yerba Maté) to coffee, there are sometimes when I find myself missing that deep, roasted flavor of coffee.
This Dark Roast blend from Maté Factor understands this about me, and delivers that flavor that I want without the side effects that I don’t!
The blend has a great depth of flavor – the combination of the roasted and green Yerba Maté, roasted barley and roasted carob give this cup such a unique, interesting complexity. But what really makes this an exceptional coffee alternative – I think – is the addition of the roasted chicory. Chicory, when roasted, tastes remarkably like coffee and gives this blend an delicious edge!
The carob gives this tea a deep, savory chocolate-y note that is quite delicious. To bring out more of that chocolate flavor, I recommend adding a sprinkling of raw sugar. (Muscavo is my choice for this, and is also available on the Maté Factor website!)
Maté Factor describes their Dark Roast blend as

"I am a tea drinker and this cocoa shell tea has been a bit of a revelation for me. I was looking for an alternative, change of pace source of caffeine for my weekends and this fits the bill. One tablespoon brewed for 10 minutes provides a subtle chocolate taste with about the same level of caffeine as green tea, which is perfect for me. I am trying to..."
