For someone who isn’t a fan of regular, red rooibos (like myself), this green rooibos is an incredible surprise!
Green rooibos is non-oxidized unlike it’s red cousin, but the more demanding production process for green rooibos (similar to the method by which green tea is produced) makes it more expensive than traditional rooibos. Additionally, “green” rooibos has a higher antioxidant capacity than fully oxidized rooibos. It carries a malty flavor somewhat different from its red counterpart.
This was my first tasting of a green rooibos and I absolutely love it. It doesn’t have the nutty sweet flavor of red rooibos, instead it brings to this cup a sweet grassy green flavor which matches absolutely perfectly with the strawberry flavoring.
Zoomdweebies describes this tea as:
Refreshing, freeze-dried strawberry bits in a blend with green (non-oxidized) rooibos. A special treat just because.
Ingredients: Green Rooibos, freeze-dried strawberry pieces and strawberry flavor.
An amazing blend, this tea has a lot of character, and the strawberry is a fantastic strawberry flavor – not too sweet, not too tart, but just right, and the grassy green rooibos makes it perfect. It’s really too bad it was a limited edition, through 52teas.com, because I think this is an awesome – above average – blend. And WOW what an incredible, stunning, you-wouldn’t-believe-it iced tea this makes!
And I found out that this AWESOME tea bar is located in Witchita, KS – which is about a 4 hour drive from me here in Mid-Missouri…but I think it would be worth the trip!! In fact I could take my good friend zippy and we could make a road trip of it. I can’t think of anything I’d like to visit more than an 80s themed tea bar in the middle of Kansas. Remarkable!
