Earl of Bengal Tea from Teatulia

Earl of Bengal Tea from TeatuliaYou know me… I love Earl Grey!  So whenever I find an Earl Grey that looks just a little different – I am in MUST TRY mode!  Such is the case with this Earl Grey – or, rather, Earl of Bengal – from Teatulia.

This tea represents my first order with Teatulia, although I’ve tried a few of their teas courtesy of a friend.  I was amazed at how quickly the order arrived, and they even included a free gift.

The packaging is awesome.  Not only is it attractive, but the eco-canisters are compostable, as are the biodegradable corn-based pyramid tea bags.   And this tea is 100% organic – including the Oil of Bergamot.  I love it when a company is so dedicated to the environment like Teatulia is.   It makes me feel that much better about my purchase.

The flavor of this Earl Grey (err… Earl of Bengal) is also something I feel really good about!  The black tea base is bold and bright.  There is a light astringency and no bitterness.

The bergamot is not as strong as some Earl Grey teas, but it is very flavorful.  I was a little worried when I first smelled the tea in dry form, because I wasn’t getting as strong a bergamot scent as I expected.  The same is true of the brewed tea – it doesn’t possess a strong bergamot fragrance.

The flavor is delightful.  It has a crisp, delicious bergamot taste that is very true.  The bergamot doesn’t taste artificial, nor does it have that perfume-y chemical taste that bergamot can sometimes have.  This just tastes clean and vibrant.  Delicious!

Teatulia describes this tea as

Black Tea with Organic Oil of Bergamot.
A new take on an old classic. Bold yet unapologetically flavorful with a splash of Bergamot citrus to start your day.

I know there are some people who think they don’t care for Earl Grey because it tastes too overwhelmingly like perfume or soap.  Let me say to those people – this is the Earl Grey (err… Earl of Bengal) for you!  The flavor of the bergamot is light and pleasant, and not at all soapy!
