This is the tea of the week for the week of November 29, 2010. The minute I read the name of it, I knew it was a tea I had to try. I love most banana flavored teas that I have tried, and I especially love 52Teas banana teas!
When I opened the pouch, I was amazed by the scent – it smells so good. Like banana bread fresh out of the oven! My mouth began watering from that first moment! Even better – the tea retains its aroma in the brewed liquor. The fragrance wafting from my teacup at the moment smells like piping hot, liquid banana bread!
This tea tastes just as good as it smells, too. The banana flavor reaches the palate first, and is accompanied by hints of nutty tones from the walnut. Just like the best banana breads (at least, in my opinion) the walnut does not take over, but instead just adds a hint of nutty accent. The butter flavor hits just after mid-sip and remains through the finish, it is smooth and rich and creamy!
There is also a distinct “bake-y” kind of taste to this… not yeasty bread tasting, but, more of a cake-y kind of taste. Not to be outdone, the black tea base is flavorful and strong but not brassy. It’s a medium-bodied tea that has a fair amount of astringency – not too much but, there is a light drying sensation to the finish. Fortunately, it is not an overwhelming astringency, because I am really enjoying the buttery finish at the tail of this sip, and it lingers well into the aftertaste. A truly AWESOME tasting tea!
52Teas describes this tea as
I really need a homey fix this week and this fits the bill quite nicely.
Here’s our premium black teas blended with real freeze-dried bananas, chopped walnuts and natural flavors. The banana is a bit strong on the nose, but the bread, walnuts and touch of butter are all there in the cup. This is an awesome tea, probably even better with a touch of cream and sugar.
This isn’t a tea that I’d recommend to those who don’t like bananas… but for the rest of you out there, you really should try this. It’s very much like “home” in a teacup, reminding me of the days when I’d come home from school smelling freshly baked banana bread. It didn’t happen often, but when it did, I knew I was in for a treat! With this tea, I can enjoy banana bread whenever I want it! Yay!

"I am a tea drinker and this cocoa shell tea has been a bit of a revelation for me. I was looking for an alternative, change of pace source of caffeine for my weekends and this fits the bill. One tablespoon brewed for 10 minutes provides a subtle chocolate taste with about the same level of caffeine as green tea, which is perfect for me. I am trying to..."
