Jasmine tea is one of my favorites. I just love its delicate flowery scent and taste. Twinings is one of the “Grande Dames” of the tea world. It has produced decent, middle-of-the-road teas for many, many years. This particular offering is fairly new. It is 100% organic and Fair Trade certified.
I brewed it with water about 180°F, for about 2 minutes. The light yellow/amber brew smelled of a good jasmine, neither sickly sweet nor so perfumed it was undrinkable, which are two of the faults that jasmine tea blenders most easily fall into.
Here’s what Twinings says:
Pure and natural refreshing green tea lightly scented with jasmine flowers for a delicate fragrance.
The odd thing about this tea was the extraordinary sensation of sourness – like a sour ball – that came with each sip. It overwhelmed the delicate taste of jasmine. I don’t know if I was reacting to something or if there was something added to make the tea more piquant, but it ruined it for me. The aroma was lovely, drinking it was not.
