Hand picked Spring Tieguanyin Oolong tea from Verdant Tea arrived in Verdant Tea’s signature resealable pouch, and I was immediately thrilled. Having had Tieguanyin previously, but not from them, I couldn’t help myself, I simply had to try theirs.
Brilliant emerald-green and tightly rolled, the nose of the dry leaves is light and floral. Subtle notes of grass and fresh herbs promise a refreshing and clean cup.
I followed the directions on the pouch and rinsed my leaves lightly before brewing. The liquor brews to a light, pale yellow, and has a fresh, light and crisp nose. The leaves as they brew, open to HUGE whole leaves and quickly filled the cup. Broad, spear like and tippy, the leaves enhance the liquor’s beauty and serve as a brilliant back ground for the fresh flavor. Verdant Tea has taken the utmost care in the selection of this refreshing and light pallet cleanser.
Floral notes and grass notes shine through, and are enhanced by the soft under tones of honey and a light but lingering astringency that gives this cuppa a sophisticated and fresh taste sure to be a favorite in the spring and summer time months.
Verdant Tea describes this tea as such:
The complexity of this fresh spring harvest Tieguanyin stands up to the rich flavors of our autumn harvest, and the sweet floral notes of our last spring harvest. Indeed, we must admit that this may be our most exquisite Tieguanyin yet. We sometimes wonder why the farmers part with something so precious, but hope that you will join us in appreciating the new crop.
As usual, I have a few ideas for pairings for this one as well. Salads are the obvious choice, but, if I could recommend a dish, I would have to suggest a seafood or mushroom risotto with bitter green salad. A sorbet of citrus, or a plate of star fruit, kiwi, berries and melon will enhance and brighten all the notes.
Again, as usual, I refrained from the sweetener, and any cream. This stand alone tea needs neither of them in my opinion. If you MUST add a sweetener, try honey, but, cream will simply ruin it. Citrus is a good choice if you’re adding anything at all. Iced, this makes for a great way to cool off after the lawn work, or as a chiller at an outdoor party.
Either way, Verdant Tea has again brought to us a wonderful refreshing tea and shows the care and expertise they use to choose and serve us the true jewels of the earth.

"I am a tea drinker and this cocoa shell tea has been a bit of a revelation for me. I was looking for an alternative, change of pace source of caffeine for my weekends and this fits the bill. One tablespoon brewed for 10 minutes provides a subtle chocolate taste with about the same level of caffeine as green tea, which is perfect for me. I am trying to..."
