Mayan Chocolate Truffle from Mighty Leaf

Mayan Chocolate Truffle

Mayan Chocolate Truffle

This may be my favorite Chocolate Truffle tea from Mighty Leaf thus far!  And surprisingly (at least to me!), it’s not a tea at all, but, a tisane.

The fragrance of this tea is very chocolate, as an un-brewed tisane in the tin, as well as a brewed beverage.  The spice is also present in the un-brewed tisane, the chili pepper scent is reminiscent of one of my favorite childhood treats:  chili saladitos (Yes, I grew up in Southern California and became addicted to these things!  When my family moved to Nevada, I think that this was the food I missed the most!  Hey, you just couldn’t find chili saladitos in Fallon, Nevada in the 80′s… but I digress)  In fact, I enjoy the fragrance of this tisane so much that I am keeping the unwashed, empty tin so that I can sniff it every once in a while!

Here is what Mighty Leaf says about Mayan Chocolate Truffle tea:

Discover our Mayan Chocolate Truffle herbal tea, where chocolate chips mingle with chunks of chili and red pepper, and bits of apple and strawberry in this stimulating herbal infusion with a sweet finish. This caffeine free herbal tea is a good alternative to traditional chai tea.

This tea is very rich in chocolate, which pleased me a great deal, especially since my previous Mighty Leaf Chocolate Truffle tea experiences, while most were delicious, they all seemed to be lacking a bit in the chocolate flavor.  This tea makes up for that!

The chili pepper did not arrive on my palate until about the third sip, and then it hit me.  Not a club over the head hit, but, rather, a very subtle surprise POP!  Just enough heat to add interest and contrast to the sweetness of the chocolate.

And you can also taste the fruit in this tea.  The strawberry and apple pair very nicely with the chocolate, and make for a nice contrast to the chili pepper.

The finish is slightly sweet with a delightful peppery tingle.  It’s not enough to make you want to rinse your palate with something to tame the spice, it’s just enough to entice you and make you want to keep sipping!

I highly recommend this tisane for anyone who enjoys the combination of chocolate and chili pepper (a very tasty combination, indeed!)  An excellent tea, one of my favorites from Mighty Leaf!
