When I first sipped this tea, my first thought was that my good friend zippy would love this tea, as she loves coconut. The great thing about this particular chai is that the coconut tastes just like real coconut, not like coconut flavoring, which often gives a “waxy” taste to the tea.
Zhena’s Gypsy Tea describes this tea as:
A robust and full flavored black tea accented with exotic imperial spices. The bold concentrated character of this lush black tea lends itself well to the full notes of cardamom, ginger and clove. The sweet hint of tropical coconut fragrantly fills the cup, offering an inviting taste of paradise to savor from any spot on the map. Delicious with a splash of milk. A bright and flavorful steep. Sunglasses not included.
This is an extraordinarily strong chai – the spices, and surprisingly the coconut flavor, survive the addition of milk without any weakening of the brew. The strong Indian tea base is gorgeous, and its flavor truly complements the chai spices.
And it would in fact make a beautiful iced coconut chai on a hot summer day, garnished with a slice of pineapple and a maraschino cherry and served with a straw! A creamy, spicy delight!
