Herbal Unwind from Twinings of London

Herbal Unwind by TwiningsI was a bit hesitant to try this tea when I first received it (as part of the tea gift swap that is hosted by the Tea Review Blog forums!) mainly because I am not particularly fond of chamomile.  However, I must admit that I was very pleasantly surprised by the flavor of this offering from Twinings.

The scent of the unbrewed tea is subtle and sweet, with just a hint of fruit fragrance.  Upon brewing the tea, the aroma develops into a beautiful apple scent, with just a touch of cinnamon.  This translates into the flavor as well:  the tea tastes like fresh apples with a sprinkling of cinnamon and just a whisper of ginger, which the flavor of the chamomile nicely accentuates rather than overpowers.

Twinings of London describes this tea as

A calming blend of Egyptian chamomile with delicate apple.

Create a calming moment with the enticing aroma of premium Egyptian chamomile blossoms, delicately blended with the finest crisp apples. These two well loved flavours come together to bring you a delicious and soothing cup of herbal tea.

The pairing of the apple and the chamomile is ideal, and the cinnamon and ginger are not pungent, but very gentle, to create a very soft, soothing blend that is very comforting.  A small amount of sweetener will enhance the more subtle flavors in this blend.

This is a delicious tea to enjoy at the end of a long day.  And at just under three dollars for a box, it’s a bargain to boot!

I just happened to have tried this tea, not too long ago. I did not like it, but can not put my finger on why. Maybe I just cannot seem to marry the idea of chamomile and apple. I enjoy a relaxing tisane in the evening. I do enjoy chamomile. And I generally enjoy the Twinings brand of teas. I infused a cup last evening hoping to clarify my impression, but cannot. Seems the ‘juiciness’ of the apple spoils the chamomile or does something to the chamomile that it shouldn’t :)! I will not buy it again.
