Coco Truffle from Tea Forté

“Chemically speaking, chocolate really is the world’s perfect food.” – Michael Levine, The Emperors of Chocolate: Inside the Secret World of Hershey and Mars

Cocoa Truffle from Tea ForteKnowing absolutely nothing whatsoever about the chemical composition of chocolate (or any other food), I would still completely agree with that statement. Chocolate makes me happy, and that’s good enough for me. And this completely herbal tisane is absolutely full of delicious chocolate flavor, from the first sip to the last.

The chocolate flavor is extremely rich, and this richness is enhanced greatly by the addition of your sweetener of choice.  No sweetener is still a chocolaty delight, however, and if you don’t use sweetener, you have a zero-calorie substitute for your next chocolate craving!  It also has a very warm nutty aroma and flavor which is so complementary to the chocolate tones – not exactly like a chocolate truffle, but more on the malty side like real cocoa.

The addition of a wide variety of spices almost qualify this as a chai tea as well, since it has many of the common ingredients of chai tea.  You can drink it as a chai tea with sweetener and milk, but I really feel the addition of milk to this one really mutes the lovely strong chocolate flavor it has without milk. However, if you MUST add milk – add pre-warmed milk and top with whipped cream and sprinkle with cocoa powder and you’ll have a delicious hot drink!

The fennel and licorice give the naturally bitter cacao beans a naturally sweet flavor that makes it taste like REAL chocolate without the bitterness inherent in the cocoa bean and without having an overwhelming licorice flavor (the licorice was barely noticeable to me).

Tea Forté describes this tea as:

The world’s finest cacao beans create this rich, chocolate reward. This healthy infusion is nearly as gratifying as a velvety truffle.

Our tea is made from the husks of cacao seeds that are leftover from the chocolate making process. These husks contain a hint of the chocolate flavors once inside, but do not retain measurable quantities of caffeine or the other bitter flavors of pure cacao.
Steeping Guidelines:  Steep for 5 minutes, 208°F – For stronger flavor, steep longer.
Ingredients: cacao, cinnamon, fennel, licorice root, cardamom, ginger, cloves, black pepper
Caffeine Level: Naturally Caffeine-Free

This is one AWESOME chocolate flavored tea.  It’s lively, and the very aroma is indulgent.  I only recommend serving this one hot, but if you love chocolate, you will love this tea no matter how you serve it.

Presented in Tea Forté’s signature clear mesh pyramid sachet teabags, which have an adorable little green paper tea leaf  sprouting from the top.  An elegant presentation of an equally elegant herb and spice blend.
