Unlike many teas with chamomile in them, the chamomile here doesn’t completely dominate the flavor, nor is there a grassy taste. Instead, the apple pieces in the blend seem to bring out the apple-ness of the chamomile, so that the main taste is of an apple-berry mixture.

Typically, with an unsweetened berry tea the taste is usually slightly tart or sour enough to make your taste buds water. But not so with this tea! The berry flavor was strong, but it was never too sharp. I think the rose hips and other flavors must have set off the tartness nicely. And the scent of the brewed tea had a strong fresh apple and raspberry smell.

This tea is aptly named. Just take one whiff of this tea and you will smell mint and chamomile, two of the best pre-bed herbs out there. But in this blend they have also added mugwort (which opens your third eye and is said to produce vivid dreams), damiana leaves, gotu kola and rosemary leaves, rose petals and a tiny hint of stevia. You can taste much of the other flavors because the mint and chamomile is so strong, but mixed all together it produces a light, minty fresh cup before bed.

Rose teas come in a lovely brown and pink striped box, which brightens up my day just by looking at it. The leaves smell like dried grass and herbs, but I can’t pinpoint anything specific. I added a bunch of the mixture to a cup with a strainer, and poured in the hot water. The brew smells very grassy, which I assume is from the alfalfa and dandelion. There is also a hint of lemon and ginger. It has a very pleasant taste. Gently grassy, a bit lemony and a slight taste of ginger. It has a nice calming effect. It is very soft and smooth on the tongue. On this damp and cloudy day, it is warming and cheerful. The grassy flavor makes me hopeful for sunny days out in the park.

When you first pour this strawberry kiwi loose tea into a cup you might question if it is actually suppose to be tea. It has such large, chunky pieces it looks more like trail mix, then a tea. You can almost pick out all the ingredients because the pieces are so big, and most noticeable are large pieces of dried apple. I haven’t actually nibbled on this tea, but I think it might be quite good if you do. It also has an incredibly sweet aroma, almost like a pink cotton candy.

The first sip seems light (almost too weak), but then you taste the strawberry and it ends with the zip of prominent citrus. Rediscovering this tea alone makes me really like it. I would recommend using at least 2 tsp of tea to 8 oz. of water if you do prefer a bolder flavor because it is a very mild herbal (especially if drinking iced).

This is a wonderfully tart herbal tea from Teavana. Initially, I was not going to try this tea since it has cherries in it, but the sales girl promised I would LOVE it. She was right! Although I am not a cherry fan, this tea is very fruity and reminds me of a wild cherry flavored Life-Saver.

This is a very delicious, richly indulgent tea. Sweet and creamy, this gem of a tea from Yogi Tea is a blend of creamy vanilla overtones against a chai-like spicy background with notes of cocoa and hazelnut.

The aroma of this tea is very chai tea-like, rich with spices that you would usually find in a chai: cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and ginger. The chicory root (as well as the creamy, chocolate notes from the carob pod) gives this tisane a very pleasant, well-rounded appeal in the absence of the tea leaf.

Chicory and carob give this as much a chocolate-like taste as a vanilla one, and the traditional quartet of chai spices, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and clove, give it warmth and spiciness that are great late at night.

Celestial Seasonings has several “Zinger” herbal teas, starting with the original Red Zinger. The addition of tangerine to the orange makes for a lighter orange flavor.
