While the rum is the strongest flavor here, I think its the accents of lime and peppermint that really give this blend it’s definition. The green tea tastes fresh and sweet, and there is just a slight hint of bitterness to it. There is also a vegetative quality (imagine that!) to it, but I wouldn’t really categorize it as a grassy note so I suspect that the vegetal flavor is more a result of the artichoke flavoring rather than the green tea.

A very creamy taste with a delightful caramel-y note. The black tea base used in this blend is a pleasant tasting black Ceylon tea. So, when I found “Butterbeer” tea (a blend created by Robert Pirlot) while browsing Adagio’s website, I was very intrigued. On this cold gray morning, I’m sipping away at the Chocolate Chai. While some teas are delicately spiced, I’ve noticed that across the board, Adagio tends to have very bold Chais, with lots of ginger and cardamom. In this particular blend, the cardamom is the strongest flavor, even stronger than the chocolate. It does smell like rich chocolate, but tastewise, the chocolate is quite light, almost elusive, dancing in and out behind the rich spices.

I think what makes it work for me is the delicious mango flavor. It seems to soften some of the harsher tones of the Maté, giving it a bright, nectar-like taste that is very true to the fruit. This tea brews up a deep ruby color (because that’s the way princesses like it). Yes, I can smell the peach but I can also smell a little bit of a floral undertone to it as well…or a blossom scent. Very light in color but usual for a white tea.

It reminds me almost of a black tea with a medium chocolate color. I expected it to taste very strong, but it was a nice soft white. I didn’t find much fruit flavor in the tea so it would be great for tea drinkers that enjoy a pure tea with just a hint of fruit.

Taste strength is medium to medium–strong depending on how you steep it, and right at the end of the sip there’s almost an upward sweetness. Great cup to start the day!

the tea was much gentler than it’s brewing aroma suggested, especially when I put in some more hot water after the first sip, which was indeed a bit much in the strength-before-taste department. There was my Yunnan, with its faint hint of spice, a bit of cocoa and yes, some woodiness thrown in.
