Amber Sugar Gems from Compass Teas
The Tea Guru
The lovely deep amber color is created using caramel coloring, which leaves a very slight molasses aroma and flavor to the sugar gems, making this sugar idea for darker teas, especially black teas and dessert teas, etc.

This is a fun way to add a little sweetener into your tea. The gems are little pieces of rock sugar and actually taste delicious all on their own!

I had a HUGE honkin’ chunk of Papaya in there with other bits of Papaya and Pineapple. The flower buds look like they do in the picture. There is absolutely NO false advertising with this description!

I love the fact that all of the flavors are perfectly balanced to make a smooth, nectar-like beverage – so much better than the average tropical flavored blend. This is my favorite summertime tea for Summer 2009, just like the title says, it’s totally beachin’

This tea is an enjoyable experience, from start to finish. From the moment I open the pouch and smell the amazing cinnamon and vanilla notes (and the aforementioned orange), to the moment I’m pouring the hot tisane and can smell the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls wafting from my teacup, and finally until I take a sip and experience the cinnamon-y, vanilla-y deliciousness of this tisane.

The spices are somewhat mellow in this blend, but they are evenly balanced. This isn’t a particularly spicy chai, and it is one that I’d recommend this chai to those who want a good, strong tea that’s mildly spiced.

The main player in this cup is the cherry flavor. It is strongly flavored, and just as this description from Compass Teas suggests, it does taste a bit like fruit punch!

So not only is this a delicious tea with tangy yet smooth orange and chamomile highlights and subtle whispers of exotic aromas and flavors, but it also is created to help calm you down, relax your body and mind and even help with digestion.

The aroma of this tea before brewing is very soft – with chamomile being the most prevalent scent, mingling with other floral fragrances and hints of fruit. The tea brews up to a beautiful clear yellow liquid that smells deliciously of chamomile and citrus – the mere act of inhaling this tea is a tension reliever!

There is so much flavor in each sip. You can taste the chamomile and the mint, but then there is a citrus tangy taste and then there is a berry, tart taste. They end up blending really well and each taste complements the other.

Flower Child, a whimsically named Earl Grey with a twist, starts us off with the traditional black tea and bergamot of the Earl Grey, then adds a deeper floral note with an abundance of dried Chrysanthemum flowers

The tea is fairly robust with some astringency. It is brisk enough to hold its own with the bergamot flavoring, which is also strong, but not so much that it tastes perfume-ish.

The flavor is clean and refreshing. The tangy flavor of the citrus curbs the spearmint just enough so that this is not an overwhelmingly mint flavored tisane. It doesn’t taste medicinal or even toothpaste-y. It tastes slightly sweet and juicy with a power-punch of mint!

This is a lovely light rose black tea, feminine and bright. While the rose flavoring is noticeable, it’s not overwhelming, although it leaves a very distinct floral aroma and flavor, just like a real rosebud.

The black tea is nicely softened by the floral notes in this tea. The floral notes are also quite soft, and do not overpower the palate or make you feel like you just sprayed your tongue with cologne. And the lovely feminine fragrance makes this the perfect choice to serve at a garden tea party

The white tea is very soft (as most white teas are), and the peppermint, which can often be a rather intrusive ingredient and steal the flavor spotlight, is beautifully delicate, creating a very “airy and light” cup.
