Genmaicha Extra Green from Den’s Tea
liber-teas
The tea brews to a beautiful, deep jade green color – primarily because of the matcha in the blend. And of course, the roasted “popcorn” aroma of the Genmaicha is so inviting! I am so delighted! This is a remarkable Genmaicha.

I love the texture of the tea in its dry state. Reminiscent of a trail mix for the tea lover with crunchy tidbits of glorious rice, dusted with matcha powder, I could just eat it up – and have actually done so.

Overall, this is a sweet, delightful cup of tea … one that I enjoyed and would recommend to others.

This is not a scented tea, however, it had a soft, noticeable floral essence. I stuck my nose closer which revealed it’s vegetal earthy scent. Once I tasted the liquor, I noticed the flavor profile matched the scent with the sweet soft taste in the beginning and ended with a sweet grassy note.

I really like this. I recommend it to all Houjicha fans, as well as fans of Genmaicha… it is a deliciously different twist on these two classic green tea varieties.

The flavor is sweet and caramel-y. There is a deep woodsy/earthiness to the flavor, as well as a delicate buttery note that melds with the sweeter caramel-like flavor. There is also the slightest whisper of vegetative notes to the tea – as though it has clung to it’s grassy “roots” a bit. Not strong – but there. A deliciously different green tea!

Matcha Miyabi has a grassy aroma to it which can be a little off-putting to those who are new to the tea. Don’t let it deter you, though, because while it may smell grassy, the vegetal flavor is much lighter than you’d expect it to be, and it is much more like a sweet, leafy flavor than a bitter, grassy one.

It has a very delicate smell and had I not known that it was cherry blossom mixed in with the green tea – I would probably still be trying to find the words to explain the smell that I was smelling. But it certainly smells like Green Tea, Cherry Blossom. I almost smell a cherry candy likeness to it with maybe an undertone of rice or popped rice…but ever so slightly.

This tea though, oh this tea … its my favorite Den’s tea to date and that is saying a lot because I absolutely have a love affair with Den’s Genmaicha! This is a beautiful display of tiny budded cherry blossoms laying dreamingly atop a grassy green field of buttery nutty sencha leaves.

The tea is light-bodied and very fresh tasting. It possesses a very strong vegetative character, but it is very pleasant. There is a slight bitter taste present in the finish which is softened a bit by the sweet, fruit taste.

"I am a tea drinker and this cocoa shell tea has been a bit of a revelation for me. I was looking for an alternative, change of pace source of caffeine for my weekends and this fits the bill. One tablespoon brewed for 10 minutes provides a subtle chocolate taste with about the same level of caffeine as green tea, which is perfect for me. I am trying to..."
