Aged Earl Grey from Numi Tea

I really enjoyed the differences in this cup of Earl Grey. This more assertive flavor of the Assam tea blends elegantly with the bergamot, making this a very enchanting tea.

The flavor is smooth and pleasantly sweet, and it has an agreeable body to it that I would classify as medium. The finish is like honey – but not as sticky sweet!

Chamomile has long been used for its calming properties, and this tea uses a brilliant combination of it and lemon myrtle to give a sense of quiet and well-being. Numi is a trustworthy tea company that repeatedly produces smooth, self-drinking teas that are full in flavor and round out perfectly. I’ve learned that lemon myrtle ranks high on my list of favored ingredients, and I am eager to find my own supply so I can mix it in with my own personal herbal tisane blends.

If you’re looking for a combination of the richness of Mexican hot cocoa with the added depth of tea and the combination of the health benefits of tea and chocolate – all for effectively zero calories – this is the tea to come to.

It is an extraordinarily rich, heavy tasting tea, and quite different from any other tea I’ve ever experienced. The chocolate flavor I would describe as more of a savory chocolate than a sweet chocolate – but that is not a bad thing.

Numi uses a rich, robust Assam tea as their base for this chai, which provides a malty profile and a complex depth of flavor. They chose a rather simplistic approach to the spices they utilized in this chai, going with only the basics: cinnamon, cardamom and ginger. To this basic list of spices they have also included Turkish anise.

A cinnamon-dominated chai with a touch of anise. I don’t think there’s any such thing as trying too many chai teas, though. Winter can be a long season in much of North America, and we have time to enjoy plenty of tea. This particular one is not my own favorite, but it’s still good, and the blend of spices here might be your new favorite, depending on your own taste.

After adding copious amounts of cream and a touch of sugar, this fantastic cup hit precisely the spot I was hoping it would. The tea was rich, and very much a dessert tea. After I added the cream, I found that the sweetness and flavor were more subtle than without. I will definitely have to try a whole cup black, as well. There was a subtle hue of vanilla, and definitely a subtle buttery flavor to this tea. The black tea itself was more subdued than I’ve found in other caffeinated varieties. However, don’t let my description of subtlety mislead you. This is no weak tea. The combination of flavors makes it very rich, indeed.

A lovely golden lemon drop of a tea, perfect for a pleasant afternoon, with a book and a cat. As it cools, there is more a hint of green – I don’t know if it is tea or the mate. I preferred it hot, as it is more lemon drop.

I really do like this tea and often drink it just for the SMELL of it. If you see it on the store shelf – give it a whirl!

I was thrilled by the flavor of this blend of tea! In the forefront of the flavor was a strong lemon flavor, followed by the smoothest buttery gentle taste of green tea and yerba mate blend. Part way through the cup, I picked up on a spicy taste that was more zingy than anything. I am not sure if it was the lemon or if it was something else, but it was a definite spice.

If you are looking for a nice mellow black try this. If you are looking for an over-the-top bold/full-flavored black tea, Numi has some other options that might be more fitting. I still give this a thumbs up, regardless.

The flavor of this tea, much like the rest of the Numi teas I’ve tasted, is not overpowering, but soft and supple. It is the perfect self-drinking chai as it is completely unnecessary to add sugar and cream. It reminds me of curling up on a giant comfy couch, wrapped up in my softest blanket, reading a book and being warmed by the glow of a fire. In fact, the book I would recommend you read while drinking this is 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, by Jules Verne, because that’s what I’m reading now!

It is a very agreeable taste: the chamomile is mild, just a hint of apple-like flavor and floral tones, while the citrus essence of the lemon myrtle is gentle and marries well with the chamomile.

The brewing tea’s aroma is a bit softened from the dry, but maintains its lovely scent. I almost don’t want to drink it – what if it doesn’t live up to the aroma? However, I bravely take a sip and hooray! the tea lives up to its potential. It is a lovely rose flavor, nicely under-girded with a floral white tea.

"I am a tea drinker and this cocoa shell tea has been a bit of a revelation for me. I was looking for an alternative, change of pace source of caffeine for my weekends and this fits the bill. One tablespoon brewed for 10 minutes provides a subtle chocolate taste with about the same level of caffeine as green tea, which is perfect for me. I am trying to..."
