Alberta Street Chai from Townshend’s Tea
- Type Of leaves: Black Tea, Yerba Maté, Rooibos
- Name Of Tea: Alberta St. Chai
- Available From: Townshend’s Tea

A unique and delicious chai that is certainly worthy of its name. This chai is different than many spiced chai teas because it does not have cardamom or ginger, and instead has nutmeg, which creates a distinctively different flavor. The rooibos aren’t really significant in the flavor – I can’t really detect much of the woodsy flavor it imparts, but I can’t say that this tea would be the same without it.

The black tea base is a strong, delicious tasting Chinese black tea. It has a brisk, bright flavor, and very little astringency. One word of caution though, I don’t recommend using a little extra leaf when brewing this tea.

This is a tea that would be delicious iced or hot – because of the cloves and tangerine notes it has a very autumnal taste to it… it tastes like Halloween punch

The flavor is a pleasant “harmony” of tastes. The overall cup is delicate and well-rounded. The floral tones from the jasmine and lavender are the most distinguished flavors here, but the undertone of roasty-toasty goodness from the hojicha comes through as well.

This is a very enjoyable blend. I think would work best as an afternoon pick-me-up rather than a morning brew, due to its rather light taste.

"I am a tea drinker and this cocoa shell tea has been a bit of a revelation for me. I was looking for an alternative, change of pace source of caffeine for my weekends and this fits the bill. One tablespoon brewed for 10 minutes provides a subtle chocolate taste with about the same level of caffeine as green tea, which is perfect for me. I am trying to..."
