Masala Chocolate Truffle from Mighty Leaf

Marsala Chocolate Truffle Tea

Another tea from Mighty Leaf’s Chocolate Truffle Collection, their Masala Chocolate Truffle Tea is very heavily laden with cinnamon, and that’s the scent that hits you the moment you open the tin, and again while you’re brewing — reminding me a bit of a potpourri simmer pot filled with aromatic spices.  It smells very warm, comforting, and delicious!

The tea brews to a beautiful amber color, and as you might expect, the most prominent Masala spice flavor is the cinnamon.  However, notes of the cardamom do shine through, as well as the less dominate flavors of ginger, cloves and peppercorns.

In fact, the only flavor that is missing from this brew is the chocolate, which often seems to lose itself amongst the pleasant, yet heavy-hitting spice.  Instead, the chocolate seems to linger around in the more subtle notes of this blend.  Despite this, however, I found myself really enjoying this cup of tea.

Mighty Leaf describes this tea as…

Masala Chocolate Truffle herbal tea delivers creamy chocolate notes accompanied by zesty cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves in this chai tea like herbal infusion.

I don’t think I would have referred to this tea as an herbal infusion, as none of the ingredients listed would be called an herb, but rather a spice, so perhaps “spice melange” or “spice infusion” would have been a more accurate term.  As has been true of other teas in Mighty Leaf’s Chocolate Truffle Collection, I wish that there was more chocolate in this blend (what can I say?  I’m a chocoholic!)  However, the strong, spicy flavor of this tea is rather nice and is perfect for those who enjoy a spice laden tea as much as I do!  It’s a very different, yet very delicious, kind of tea!

Silver Needle Jasmine from Rishi Tea

Silver Needle Jasmine
Rishi Tea, who I would personally consider to be one of the best tea companies in the world, brings us this study in ethereal tea beauty.  A symphony of romantic florals, fresh grassy mid-notes, and a savory sweet finish.

A completely breathtaking white tea!  Even the packaging of Rishi teas are beautiful, leading one to notice the special care they put into lovely product presentation.  The tea is infused with REAL jasmine, not jasmine flavoring nor any trace of bitter aftertaste.   Just the simple essence of Jasmine flowers gracing the notes of this brew.

Rishi Tea describes this tea as:

White tea buds harvested from the Fuding Da Bai varietal infused with the fresh flavor and aroma of jasmine flowers according to a totally natural process that uses only freshly picked jasmine flowers and expert tea mixing, sorting and drying techniques. Refreshing, soft and subtle with sweet flavors, smooth white tea body and a lofty floral aroma.

Water: 185°F / Leaves: 1 tablespoon per 8 ounces / Infusion Time: 4–5 minutes

Ingredients: Organic white tea and Organic jasmine flowers. Origin: Fujian, China.

I enjoyed this tea plain, without any sweetener or creamer, as I feel this tea is best enjoyed.   In fact, enjoying a cup of this tea with no other ingredients, no other distractions, is a zen moment in itself!  The leaves of this tea are one of the more incredible parts of this tea.  They are whole and vibrant, not shattered or withered. And the flavor of this tea is mellow yet crisp, and very refreshing with a delicate aroma and flavor when brewed.  This is definitely a tea for those who appreciate white teas, gourmet tea, jasmine tea, or very light or floral blends.  Romantic, relaxing and inspiring!

Lemon Herbal Tea from Lipton

Lipton Herbal Lemon

I’m someone that likes a really nice fresh herbal tea, but I am also quite cheap, and drink so much tea that I can’t always spend much money buying it. That’s what led me to try Lipton herbals. I mean, I know, Lipton? But it looked good and was inexpensive so I tried it out.

Turns out I really like the lemon herbal tea. It has a mysterious ingredient of “natural flavor” but the other ingredients are very recognizable such as hibiscus flowers, rosehips, orange peel, roasted chicory root, lemon peel and lemongrass.

Lipton describes this tea as:

We carefully select the finest-quality herbs, flowers, spices and natural flavors which we blend to create our great-tasting Lipton herbal teas. And of course Lipton Herbal Tea is 100% caffeine free and 100% natural. No additives, preservatives or coloring.

What I like about this tea is a very strong actual lemon flavor (not a fake candy lemon flavor). It is very sweet, without having an overly sugary taste, and also has a slight sour bite, just like a real lemon. It also smells quite sweet, almost like a desert. I would definitely recommend this tea.

Green Tea Tropical from Mighty Leaf

Green Tea Tropical

From the gorgeous silken packaging, to the high quality tea, and even the inclusion of a witty double entendre in the company title (you know…”Mighty Leaf” and “My-Tea-Leaf”), Mighty Leaf is a well known and well liked tea company.

This sample of Mighty Leaf’s Green Tea Tropical was sent to me by Nancy Spruiell of WholesaleSpaSource.com who offers Mighty Leaf Teas wholesale to spas, salons, and other businesses.  She highly recommended Mighty Leaf to me (so much so in fact that she sent me several samples of their teas!), and now that I’ve had my first cup I can see why.

Mighty Leaf describes this tea as:

Green Tea Tropical green tea boasts smooth green tea leaves that harmoniously blend with sweet tropical fruits to create a sensation as uplifting as a breeze off the isle of Papenoo. A healthy and refreshing blend rich in antioxidants, Green Tea Tropical makes ideal an introduction to green tea.  We sourced the finest loose leaf green tea to infuse our silken tea pouch, our twist on the gourmet teabag, with an extraordinary flavor experience.

Ingredients
Green tea, banana, strawberry, pineapple, guava, and exotic fruit flavors with red, white and blue cornflowers, pineapple pieces

Grammar aside (Green Tea Tropical green tea boasts smooth green tea?? ok, we get it, it’s green tea), this is a lovely example of a tropical flavored tea.  This tea has a rich buttery bright tropical fruit fragrance when brewed, and has a smooth, mellow flavor with no trace of bitterness, which is surprising in a bagged green tea!

The packaging really impressed me, from the professionally made individual outer packet (with such beautiful photos of their tea on the front), and the silken pouch that holds the tea is honestly the most beautiful and well-made disposable tea pouch I’ve ever seen.  The back of the outside packet reads:

Smooth green tea leaves harmoniously blend with sweet tropical fruits of pineapple and guava. Fragrant and uplifting, this bouquet will transport you to tropical bliss.

Brew time 3 Minutes.

Magic of Mighty Leaf:  Since ancient times, a freshly brewed pot filled with whole tea leaves has been revered as the richest in character.  Today we proudly continue the tradition. Our handcrafted silken pouches are packed with our artisan blends of whole tea leaves, fruits, herbs, spices and flavors too big for ordinary tea bags.  Enjoy the liberation of pure tea goodness and rediscover the pleasure of the way tea was naturally meant to be.

A lovely everyday green tea rich in antioxidants and flavor! This would also make a lovely summer iced tea.

Yunnan Golden Tips from Narien Teas

Yunnan Golden Tips from Narien TeaThe quality of Narien Teas really shines through in this absolutely gorgeous Yunnan black tea.  The tea itself is stunning in it’s beauty, with long tippy golden brown leaves that smelled malty yet bright.

This tea brews up into a deep mahogany color, that holds a very bold, deep and crisp flavor.  Be wary of oversteeping as this is a high quality tea that can get bitter if brewed incorrectly.  This is a very strong, stout brew that aficionados of black tea (such as myself) will absolutely adore!

Narien Teas describes this tea as:

Yunnan Golden Tips (Dian Hong) is a beautiful Yunnan black tea with tippy, golden colored leaves. Brews a rich aromatic cup with an delicious spice tone.

I’m not sure about it having a “spice tone”.  I’m going to have to disagree with that one and say that it has much more of a nutty tone.   Being a very strong brew, you can re-brew the leaves up to 3 times.  The 2nd use was almost stronger than the first and the 3 was a little weaker.  Anything past 3 and you don’t get the full effect of the brew, which in itself is extremely robust!

Pride of the Port from Peet’s Tea

pride-of-the-port Peet’s Coffee and Tea carries some of the best loose leaf blends I have found in my area of the Northwest. Pride of the Port is one of their highest quality, best tasting black tea blends. Though I often choose to drink Ceylon, this blend is an amazingly smooth, full bodied, tea with no bitterness at all. It is not smokey – but it’s not flowery either. A bit malty, but a flavorful blend like no other!

Peet’s Tea describes it this way:

Pride of the Port has been a Peet’s favorite for 10 years and we consider it our signature blend. Malty, floral, sweet and full-bodied, it’s a tea that you’ll always find something new in, yet you can always rely on for a rich and satisfying cup.

Though Peet’s says this has a floral tone… I don’t agree. Sweet and full-bodied, though, I quite agree! The side of the tin does not tell which black teas they have blended, nor does the website. But it contain a variety of high-grown quality golden, black and red tips – indicative of some of the highest quality black tea. It brews up to a nice reddish brown color.

I brew this loose leaf tea a pot at a time. Adding my favorite mixture of milk and sugar, I feel like a queen drinking this tea from one of my favorite teacups!

African Nectar from Mighty Leaf

African Nectar from Mighty Leaf

Having tasted for myself the quality of Mighty Leaf teas, I found myself inexorably drawn to this tea I’m reviewing, African Nectar.  Even though I’m not a fan of red rooibos, the tea’s main ingredient, I knew that it had to be something special, being from Mighty Leaf, and from the scent of the bag, which was absolutely blissful.

This sample of Mighty Leaf’s African Nectar was sent to me by Nancy Spruiell of WholesaleSpaSource.com who offers Mighty Leaf Teas wholesale to spas, salons, and other businesses. She highly recommended Mighty Leaf to me (so much so in fact that she sent me several samples of their teas!), and this is one of the many teas they provide.

Mighty Leaf describes this tea as:

Savor the finest rooibos when you journey to the fertile tropics with our African Nectar rooibos tea and savor the fruits of the “Alluring Continent.” Made with naturally caffeine free African rooibos tea, also known as red tea, this Mighty Leaf signature rooibos blend teems with tropical fruit and blossoms. Rich in anti-oxidants, it promotes calm and relaxation.

Ingredients
Rooibos leaves, natural tropical flavors, natural flavors, hibiscus flowers, rose petals, mallow blossoms, marigold flowers

They should probably be a little more specific in their wording now that green (un-oxidized) rooibos is arriving on the tea scene with the forceful vengeance of a new trend.

The packaging really impressed me, from the professionally made individual outer packet (with such beautiful photos of their tea on the front), and the silken pouch that holds the tea is honestly the most beautiful and well-made disposable tea pouch I’ve ever seen. The back of the outside packet reads:

Sojourn to the fertile tropics and savor the fruits of the “alluring continent”.  African rooibos leaves teeming with mango, vanilla and blossoms. Anti-oxidant rich.

Brew time 5 Minutes.

The rooibos was very pronounced, and if you like rooibos then you absolutely have to try this tea because it is a symphony of rooibos  grandiosity.  Beneath the rooibos were the bright tropical flavors mentioned, including a very mellow mango flavor coupled with a softer vanilla.  The rose petals, mallow blossoms and Calendula (marigold) petals make this a very attractive tea to look at as well as well as lending a very subtle floral note to the aftertaste. Overall a lovely, smooth tropical red rooibos blend!
