Soothing Mint Green Tea from Salada

  • Type Of leaves: Green Tea
  • Name Of Tea: Soothing Mint Green Tea
  • Available From: Salada

Soothing Mint Green TeaThis is a very delicious mint flavored green tea.  It is very smooth tasting.  The spearmint is cool and bright, while the green tea base is fresh with a very slight vegetative quality.  Together they produce a very soothing and rejuvenating cup of tea that is just perfect after a meal or any time of the day that you need a moment of calm.

I have noticed that Salada seems to focus on simple flavors.  Sometimes it is the simplest of flavors that can create the biggest impact, and this tea definitely delivers.  While the spearmint is the dominate flavor in this blend, it is not so overwhelmingly strong that it tastes as though I’ve squirted a dollop of toothpaste in my cup of tea.  Rather, it is a smooth, minty green tea that leaves the palate feeling clean and refreshed.

Salada describes this tea as:

Salada Soothing Mint Green Tea is a comfortable blend of traditional green tea and natural mint flavor from spearmint leaves. Traditionally, spearmint leaves have been used to calm upset stomachs and relieve anxiety. The all-natural blend of Salada Soothing Mint Green Tea has hand picked quality and smooth flavor that will soothe the body and put you at ease. After a long day, this is the blend to revitalize your healthy lifestyle.

As I’ve pointed out in several reviews lately, it’s been quite cold up here in the Pacific Northwest, so I’ve been drinking my tea hot, and only hot.  However, as I sit here at the computer with my teacup and it cools slightly, I notice that the flavors do not become muted, so I suspect this would make a very delightful (and refreshing!) iced tea as well – and a slice of lemon would make it perfect.

Dragon Lily from Numi Organic Tea

Dragon Lily from Numi Organic TeaThis was one of the first ‘flowering’ or ‘blooming’ teas I tried.  And let me tell you – I really LOVED it!  It’s more than just a tea…it’s ART.  It’s history and culture.  It’s beauty.  It’s nature.  It’s tradition and celebration…all wrapped up into a little ball of heaven!

It was light in color once bloomed and had a delicate and floral, yet slight fruity-taste.  The bloom stayed in tact and it was gorgeous!  This is wonderful for multiple infusions.  I remember getting at least 9 out of it.

Numi describes this tea as:

Dragon Lily bursts open into an arrangement of superb white tea and stunning flowers. When steeped, sprinkles of osmanthus petals surface and an orange lily blossoms, a mesmerizing display. This translucent liquor imparts a velvety sweet apricot flavor.

Again, this is a Gentle, Fun, Relaxing, Comforting Cup!  Great for an evening at home or get it out to celebrate!

White Masala Chai from Yogic Chai

White Masala Chai from Yogic ChaiAs I’ve professed before, I love chai tea.  So, I was confident that I would enjoy this White Masala Chai from Yogic Chai, especially after having tried a few of their teas already, and thoroughly enjoying them.

But I wasn’t prepared for just how good this chai tea is.  Since the white tea (Bai Mu Dan) is so light in flavor and body, it gives the masala spices ample opportunity to express themselves fully – and they do.   The cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and ginger really shine in this pleasantly warming and calming blend.

The Bai Mu Dan tea is, as I said, very light in flavor – a very fresh and delicate flavor – just as you would expect from Bai Mu Dan.  And while the spices are very lively, they do not overpower the flavor of the tea.  A bright tasting chai, with just the right amount of spice.

Yogic Chai describes this blend as

Herbal Properties:

- Bai Mu Dan (white Tea): High in antioxidants*, Bai Mu Dan is picked early in the season when the buds are still fresh, young and tender. Because of this early picking, the taste white tea produces is very mild, and sweet without the sometimes astringent qualities of regular green teas.

- Cardamom: A household spice that is commonly used to support digestion without increasing Heat.* It has expectorant and diaphoretic actions.* The mucus forming properties of milk are neutralized when cardamom is added to it.*

- Cinnamon: This warming spice is traditionally used in cold formulas as an expectorant and diaphoretic (sweat inducing).* Due to its warming property, cinnamon is known to promote digestion.*

- Cloves: An energizing herb,* cloves are an effective stimulant and aromatic for the lungs and stomach.* Cloves are used extensively in Ayurvedic herbology.

- Ginger: In Ayurvedic and Chinese herbology, Ginger is known to have heating, cleansing, toning and stimulating properties.* Ginger promotes digestion, relieves abdominal discomfort, dispels chills and it is also useful for relieving respiratory complaints due to phlegm and arthritic conditions due to coldness.*

* This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Because of the delicate flavor of the white tea, this is not one I’d serve iced.  However, as a hot tea, it’s absolutely splendid.  Yogic Chai does not recommend serving this tea with milk or sweetener of any kind.  I don’t generally add milk to my white teas, so I didn’t with this tea.  I think milk or cream would ruin this blend.

However, after tasting it with sweetener, I added a drizzle of agave nectar and found that with a little sweetener, the spices really come to life.  So I do recommend a little sweetener to bring out the most in this blend.

This is really what I expected from a white chai tea, however, other white chai teas I’ve tried seem to fall short of the mark.  Yogic Chai got it just right!

Peppermint Rooibos from Rishi Tea

Peppermint Rooibos Tea by Rishi TeaI’m a mint FREAK and if you are too this tea is for YOU!  Everything about this peppermint Rooibos by Rishi is a real eye opener!  The smell, the taste, the color…all fantastic!  I absolutely LOVE it!  It’s intense and I like that about it!

Even though I find it intense, I also find it refreshing.  Inhale…exhale…it’s like YOGA in a cup!

Rishi describes this tea as:

Peppermint Rooibos has a deep red infusion with a fresh minty flavor and aroma. It’s great hot or iced with a wedge of lemon or lime. Unlike other teas, Rooibos is devoid of bitterness and naturally sweet without sugar.

Water: 195°F Leaves: 1 tablespoon per 8 ounces  Infusion Time: 5–7 minutes (For iced tea, make a double-strength infusion, dilute with cold water and pour over ice.)
Ingredients: Organic Fair Trade Certified™ rooibos, Organic peppermint, natural essential oils of bergamot and peppermint.

I really must pick up some more of this!  I think it’s worth every penny!

Green Tea Strawberry from Frontier Co-Op

Green Tea StrawberryMy first impression of this tea after taking a sip was that it was very smooth.  Much smoother than I anticipated!

The green tea flavor is fresh tasting and slightly vegetative, but not overly grassy.  This may be due to the strong berry flavor which is sweet, or it could be from the hibiscus in the blend, which lends a slight tartness to the cup, and lingers in the aftertaste.

Frontier Co-Op describes this tea as:

Vegetal green tea flavor, with nuances of fresh, sweet strawberry. Pretty pink infusion.

Ingredients: Organic green tea, organic strawberries, organic hibiscus, natural strawberry flavor.
Caffeine: Contains Caffeine
Organic: QAI Certified Organic

This makes a very refreshing and delicious iced tea, as well as a very pleasant hot cup of tea.  I added a drizzle of agave nectar to my cup, which helped to curb the tangy edge a bit, and gave it (in my opinion) a perfect balance of sweet and tart.  The sweet flavor makes it very kid-friendly – even my youngest daughter loved it!

Malama Tea from Lupicia Tea

Malama Tea by LupiciaThis tea I received in a tea swap and it came from Hawaii.  It smells wonderful…like a nutty-chocolaty snack mix. This steeps quickly. The scent actually intensifies while steeping which is rare in bagged teas.  The color of the liquid is a rich brown. You can certainly taste the nutty flavor with the black tea and a hint of chocolate! FAB! Delightful Cup!

Lupicia describes this tea as:

“Moon” – The deep sweet aroma of high-grade cacao nibs and cacao powder complement a robust black tea blend highlighted with roasted Hawaiian macadamia nuts.

I would say the only downfall is that it’s only available in their Hawaiian stores.  But I sure enjoyed it while it lasted!

English Breakfast from Teapigs

  • Type Of leaves: Black Tea
  • Name Of Tea: English Breakfast
  • Available From: Teapigs

morning glory breakfast tea TeapigsYep, it’s a breakfast tea! We all know what a breakfast tea is supposed to be: robust, strong, dark, and it should have some Assam in the blend. This meets all of those.

The Assam gives it a rich, strong flavor; the Ceylon tea used in the blend is apparently one of those ones I’ve mentioned that can taste a lot like Darjeelings, because there’s a distinct wine-like note similar to Darjeeling in this, as well as the Assam flavor. I can’t detect any special distinct flavor from the Rwandan tea in the blend, but that just means that it’s something that blends well!

Teapigs describes this tea as:

For those of you who have bought our Morning Glory tea before, this is the same great blend except we’ve added even more tea to our temple. We renamed it English Breakfast as some people didn’t recognise that this is our everyday blend of tea.
Our signature blend – the Teapigs version of builders’ tea, if you will. Far from ordinary, it’s a skillful balancing act between three glorious teas: a gutsy Assam, a mellow little Ceylon and a powerful newcomer from Rwanda.

We’ve picked the very finest tea estates for this blend and worked with the owners to make sure every cup of english breakfast is perfect. We love all our teas but we can’t start the day without a cup of our Morning Glory, particularly on a Monday.

Compare the large leaf in our tea temples to the dust in your regular tea bag; whole leaf is best.

Taste:
A gutsy tea. A perfectly balanced blend with a malty, zesty, rich strength.

Try it:
With milk. Add sugar if hungover.

Good if you’re feeling:
Anything ranging from slightly sluggish to utterly grizzly. If you’re in a brilliant mood, it will make you feel even better – hurrah.

Teapigs’ “tea temples” are mesh tea bags, with good flow-through for the hot water. Use boiling water for this one – with larger leaves than the usual bagged breakfast teas, it needs boiling water and won’t turn bitter, unlike bags with teeny broken leaf pieces which will turn bitter if you use boiling water and steep them too long.

Teapigs is a UK company, and this tea will be easy to order for our UK readers; for US readers, email the company – their web site hints that they are open to discussing shipping to the US.
