Peach Blossom Oolong from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea

Peach Blossom OolongOolong tea with peach flavoring – the combination seems almost perfect!  After all, Oolong tea already possesses a peach-like flavor to it, so adding peach flavoring to the Oolong tea leaves accentuates the qualities inherent to the Oolong.  Perfect!

Upon opening the package, I was greeted with the delightful scent of peach.  It’s a very strong, delicious fragrance that becomes quite delicate upon brewing – delicate, but delicious!

Oolong tends to expand more than other tea leaves when they are brewed, so I am generally skeptical about bagged Oolongs.  However, these large sachets of tea (which Zhena’s calls “Couture Tea Sachets”) are large enough to accommodate the expansion of the leaves well, and another bonus is that they are made from biodegradable corn silk!  So you can simply toss the sachet right into the compost!

The flavor of this tea is simply marvelous.  The peach flavor is silky smooth, and as I eluded to before, the flavor compliments the tea leaves well, allowing the tea and not the flavoring to be the star in this cup of tea.

The Oolong is slightly more fermented than many I’ve sampled lately – the leaves are more “brown” than “green.”  But the flavor is no less complex – the tea has a lovely nutty flavor and a slight floral quality that lingers very pleasantly in the finish, as well as the prominent peach notes that evoke memories of summer’s sweet fruit.

Zhena’s Gyspy Tea describes this tea as

WELCOME TO THE FRAGRANT
AND DELICIOUS REALM
OF AROMATHERAPY.

This tea is the result of carefully crafted blending, to ensure that the essential harmony of the botanicals healthful properties yield a superb tea experience.

One of the world’s most celebrated teas, this finest high mountain grown oolong offers the most complete tea drinking experience with the perfect balanced freshness of green teasand the full-bodied depth of black teas. An exceptional cup made even more entrancing with an enveloping teasing peach richness that is pure, floral and refined.

Ingredients: Oolong tea with natural peach flavor

This is a beautiful, medium bodied brew with a pleasant mouthfeel.  There is very little astringency and no hint of bitterness.   The flavor is profound enough that it would make a good tea to serve hot or iced.  I do recommend a small amount of sweetener (I added a drizzle of agave nectar) to highlight the softer tones to this tea, although it is also quite pleasant without sweetener.

This is one of my favorites from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea, I highly recommend it!

Ashley Lane Green from SensibiliTeas

Ashley Lane Green from SensibiliTeasThis has a lemon-lime soda minus the carbonation type sniff to it, paired with a lovely perfume scent.   I can taste green tea, lime, lemon, and a bit of a veggie taste, almost a celery-esque flavor.

This is unlike any tea I have ever tasted and glad I had the opportunity and I’m also very excited that a portion of the sales goes to a worthy cause.  (See below for the cause)

SensibiliTeas describes this tea as:

Origin: China

Description: Green tea from China blessed with the delicate flavors of lemon and lime. A happy marriage of great taste and proven health benefits. Makes a light and refreshing drink that’s popular both hot and iced. If you are new to green tea, this lightly flavored tea may be a good place to start. Proceeds from the sale of Ashley Lane Green will be proudly donated to WAIT House. WAIT (Welcoming Adolescents In Transition) House is the homeless youth shelter in Glens Falls run by the Warren/Washington Counties Homeless Youth Coalition. Ashley Lane spent time at WAIT house after 5 years in various foster homes and state programs. WAIT house was the first place she received the help she needed to become the productive adult she is today. 185° 1 level teaspoon tea per 8 ounces water; steep for 1-3 minutes.

The more I drink this the more I like it.

Cinnamon Fig Rooibos from Zoomdweebies

Cinnamon Fig RooibosI have a history with figs.  Without getting into too many details (and hopefully without becoming to dull and tedious in sharing my memory with you), I will tell you a little bit about that history…

When I was quite young (like around 5 or so), I lived with my mother on a farm.  That farm had an enormous orchard of FIGS.  And one of my most joyous memories of that time is walking in the orchard, picking a ripe fig from the tree, and eating the fig – still warm from the sun – right there in the orchard.  What a delightfully sweet treat it was!

So when I saw this blend by 52Teas – it really caught my interest.  And… let’s be honest, figs is not a common flavoring for tea.   Cookies, maybe, but not tea.  So, I had to try it.

Like most rooibos blends, this is a light-bodied tisane.  But don’t let that fool you, this tea is packed with flavor.

The combination of figs and rooibos is simply genius.  The rooibos with it’s naturally sweet, nutty flavor is a perfect base.  The figs are sweet, and served up warm in a tea – it evokes those very happy memories of the fig orchard.

The cinnamon manages to cut through some of the sweetness of the rooibos and allows the sweet fruity flavor of the fig to come through and be the prominent flavor of this blend.  The cinnamon is light and adds a pleasant taste of spice but not a distracting warmth (in other words, it’s not a spicy cinnamon flavor).

Zoomdweebies describes this blend as

African Rooibos blended with real cinnamon, fig pieces and natural flavors.

Suggested by Makeupmorph; blended, flavored and hand-crafted by us.

Ingredients:  Rooibos, dried fig pieces, cinnamon stick pieces, and natural flavoring.

As I write this, this particular flavor appears to be on “closeout” at 52 Teas, to make room for a new year of flavors.  So if the idea of eating warm figs in the summer sun is appealing to you… you should order a pouch for yourself and quick – before they run out.  I’m really glad I did!

Black Frost from The Simple Leaf

Black Frost from The Simple LeafBlack Frost from The Simple Leaf has a grassy, earthy type nose mixed with the black tea scent. It also has a slim to none sweet/sour/bitter taste to it. That might sound weird but it’s actually good. Pair that with a small woodsy taste and the black tea taste and that is what I taste. It’s an interesting contradiction of tastes but still enjoyable.

The Simple Leaf describes this tea as:

A clean and smooth high altitude tea, Black Frost is grown in the Nilgiri region of Southern India at elevations of 6,000 to 8,000 feet. Its gorgeous leaves make a bright golden amber brew. Black frost is slightly milder and sweeter than its northern cousins from Assam. You can drink this tea plain, or if you prefer, add a dash of milk and a little sweetener. Enjoy hot or iced

Again – I only drink my tea – PLAIN.  And I think this is just fine stand-alone.

Liquorice and Mint from Teapigs

Liquorice and Mint from TeapigsHoly cow, I mean pig! This tea is one SWEET treat. I have never had a tea so naturally sweet. I was surprised that the mint was so subtle. The sweet licorice just overpowers it, so do not expect a VERY minty tea.

TeaPigs describes this tea as:

Taste: Sweet, liquorice, mint and sweet again.

Try it: Infused for a full 3 minutes – the longer you leave this blend the sweeter it gets.

Good if you’re feeling: In need of a little treat or alternatively in need of a tea to soothe a sore throat.

Our liqourice and mint is only available in packs of 15 tea temples.

About this tea:
What makes liquorice and mint so special? Well liquorice, for a start, which has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine, is hugely popular with the Dutch and tastes so much better with peppermint than sherbet dips. Which is why, we’ve blended pure liquorice root with whole peppermint leaves to create a naturally sweet and refreshing drink that is irresistibly moreish.

Compare the large leaf in our tea temples to the dust in your regular tea bag; whole leaf is best.

I would not add any sweetener to this tea. It has only two ingredients, liquorice and peppermint, and yet it is beyond naturally sweet. It might be overwhelming to those tea lovers who do not lean to the sweeter side, but if you love sweet tea, or have a sweet tooth, then this is a perfect fit for you. Do you have a bitter or tart blend? Blend it for a sweet-tart appeal.

Mint Chocolate Chip from SensibiliTeas

Mint Chocolate Chip Mint and chocolate?  I’m in!

Prior to infusing – it smells like chocolate chip cookie with a hint of mint.

After steeping it morphs into a mint chocolate, no cookie.

It tastes very little of anything else but chocolate and a bit of minty-goodness.  It blends well and nothing is too overpowering. It IS quite tasty, however.

SensibiliTeas describes this tea as:

Origin: Sri Lanka

Description: Peppermint Patties, Girl Scout Thin Mints, some of the best things in the world are mint and chocolate. Here’s a nice tea to match! 212° 1 level teaspoon tea per 8 ounces water; steep for 3-5 minutes. Organic.

It’s a pretty good Mint Chocolate Chip tea.  I figured I love mint and I like chocolate and mint chocolate chip is my favorite type of ice cream/soy ice cream so I assumed I would like this from the get-go.  I did!

Ruby Slippers from Talbott Teas

The Ruby Slippers BlendCombining real rose petals, blue cornflower petals, fresh strawberries, natural vanilla, with red rooibos tea IS AMAZING.

It is aesthetically pleasing, with gorgeous colors of red, browns, and blues. The scent is absolutely sweet and amazing.  This tea brews up super red so don’t be surprised when you come into a RED RED cup o tea!

Talbott describes this tea as:

The Ruby Red Slippers Blend is a special blend made specifically for the 70th anniversary of the classic, The Wizard of OZ! Talbott Teas is proud to be a part of the event by being the official tea!

This tea is a bit tart, like sweet-tart. I wish I had my sugar handy at work, to pump up the sweetness just a little bit. It doesn’t need much, just a touch. This tea is a great blend alone, but can be blended with any other rooibos.
