Posh Earl Grey from LuLin Teas

posh_earl_grey_380x380Good Morning tea-lovers!

Today I am going to review this delightful looking tea from LuLin Teas.

Here we have their Posh Earl Grey Blend and I must say I think it looks rather special.

This tea is a blend of English Earl Grey with the addition of bright blue corn flowers and as they say “zesty orange flowers to create a wonderful posh earl grey blend”.

I think you will agree that the colours look beautiful.

On my instructions given for brewing they state that I need to add 3g of tea to a tea pot and steep with boiling water. I am told to let the tea infuse for 3-5 minutes according to my taste and that the tea can be re-steeped.

I prepare my kettle to boil and take my tea pot out of the cupboard. I then place the recommended amount into the tea pot and wait for the kettle to boil.

I feel excitement building as I haven’t yet tried a light tea that has flowers in it.

I pour my water into my tea pot and let everything infuse until I feel that I cant wait any longer!

5 minutes have now passed and I am very eager to try this blend.

Upon tasting I can smell a lovely orange/bergamot aroma which smells refreshing (not too perfumed like some teas can be).

I take a sip and well what can I say apart from wow!

This tea is something of  delight, its fresh, light and very tea-like (I’m sure you will know what I mean by this).

The taste of orange and bergamot come through lovely and leave me feeling refreshed and calm. I must say I feel this tea would be lovely mid morning as a treat and I feel it would be perfect for afternoon tea with some light food shared with friends.

LuLin Teas describe this tea as-

We’ve taken a Sri Lankan black tea, LuLin Teas Single Estate Keemun black tea, bergamot oil, orange flowers & cornflowers and created an Earl Grey fit for Earl Grey himself (2nd Earl Grey, a British Prime Minister received a gift of Black tea flavoured with Bergamot Oil in 1803 and we haven’t looked back since). When you first drink this tea you are present with the aromatic aroma of the bergamot, then the full flavour of the fragrant black teas, and third the zesty orange notes come through. It lingers on the palate with a combination of all of the favours. Only available in refill pouches at this time.

Overall I personally would give this tea 10 out of 10 for freshness, taste and aroma. A delicate tea suitable for anytime! Thank you LuLin Teas.

Breakfast Blend No.1 from LuLin Teas

breakfast_blend_no1_380x380- LU LIN

I received today some special samples from LuLin. This is the first time I have sampled any of their blends but after looking their website and some of their previous reviews I must say I am very exited.

Here we have what LuLin have named one of their everyday teas- Breakfast Blend No.1 or English Breakfast Black Tea.

I am a big lover of breakfast blend type teas as I find them very refreshing yet flavoursome.

I pop my kettle on to boil. LuLin state “to blend you add 3g to a tea pot and steep with boiling water. Infuse for 3-5 minutes according to taste”. Just to also point out this tea can be re-steeped.

I will follow their instructions on brewing so here goes.

I prepare my tea pot and flick my kettle on to boil.

While I wait I take a look at LuLin Teas website and look under the section with the information about this tea.

Here is what I find.

LuLin state “This blend is made from an Assam TGFOP, a Sri Lankan Dimbula and LuLin Teas Single Estate Keemun black tea. We tried a few different breakfast blends before we decided on this one. It is the first Breakfast Black tea that we have had created and is an instant favourite with all who try it. A real shelf staple, this black tea is malty, strong, not too perfumed and goes great with milk for your morning brew or as an afternoon pick me up. Only available in refill pouches at this time”.

I pour my boiled water into my tea pot and instantly see the liquor turn a very deep brown colour.

At  this point the tea smells lovely, a real malty aroma whilst also giving off a refreshing edge.

The tea is now ready, I decided to leave it brewing for the full 5 minutes as I really want to appreciate the full flavour. On this occasion I am taking this tea without milk or sugar (I must admit I have never been a fan of sugar in tea).

I take a sip and I am instantly joyed with the full-bodied malty, refreshing flavour. This tea reminds me of my first cup of English tea which was very flavour some.

If you are looking for a suitable everyday tea then this certainly is worth a try, like I said its light, malty, refreshing and a tad smokey.

LuLin describe this tea as-

Our unique Breakfast Tea that has been blended to LuLin Teas high standards. It has the characteristic strong taste from a breakfast tea that is not too overwhelming and tastes great with milk.

Overall I would say this tea is a perfect everyday blend whilst also being suitable for a special occasion as the tea is light and full of flavour. Thank you LuLin!

Organic Fairtrade Tea Bags from Morrisons

  • Type Of leaves: Black Tea
  • Name Of Tea: Organic Fairtrade
  • Available From: Morrisons

WP_000042My Friend came one morning last week for our usual get together and brought me a little something that she had picked up on her weekly shopping trip.

Here we have a box of fairtrade tea bags from the local supermarket. Quite honestly they don’t look anything special but who knows for under £2 has she found me a delicious tea?

I pop my kettle on to boil and open the box, inside I see 2 foil fresh packs with 40 bags in each.

Whilst I wait for the kettle to boil I have a little read of the packaging.

Here is what I find.

Morrisons state-

“For a great cup/mug of tea: Draw some fresh water from the tap, boil it and pour onto a tea bag in a cup/mug. Leave to brew for up to 2 minutes before removing the tea bag. Serve with or without milk and add sugar or honey to taste. Enjoy!

Alternatively, if using a teapot: Warm the teapot first and use one tea bag per person. Pour on the boiling water and leave to brew for 3-4 minutes. Stir the tea gently before pouring. Enjoy!”

My kettle has now boiled so I take my freshly boiled water and pour the hot liquid over my tea bag and in this case I have reached for a mug. I find that straight away the liquid infuses into a golden brown colour similar to the colour of hazelnuts.

Whilst the hot liquid is left to brew for a couple of minutes I notice a very fresh, clean smelling aroma to the tea, very similar to how light black teas smell.

After 2 minutes I pour milk into my mug and give the liquid a gentle stir. No sugar for me I don’t feel tea needs it.

I take a sip and I am pleasantly surprised by how light and clean tasting this tea is. It is actually one of the only teas I have tasted that is so refreshing.

Whilst I finish the rest of my tea I take a look at the ingredients as I am really keen to know more about this wonderful product.

Under the ingredients it states-

“100% Organically grown Fairtrade certified black tea. Organic standards prohibit the use of genetically modified ingredients and seek to avoid routine use of artificial pesticides and fertilizers. Tea traded in compliance with Fairtrade standards means fairer trading conditions for Fairtrade producers. Visit www.info.fairtrade.net for more information.”

I am so thrilled that this tea tastes so delicious and that it is Organic and that it is also part of the Fairtrade industry. It is certainly a winner for me. I will most definitely be purchasing this on a regular basis.

Morrisons describe this tea as-

A pure, bright, golden tea with a good balance of strength and flavour

Overall I would say this is the perfect tea for all occasions. Thank you Morrisons!

Organic Christmas Tea from Tea District

Tea District Organic Christmas Tea by Tea District

Title: Organic Christmas Tea

Ingredients: Organic black tea, cinnamon chips, ginger, orange peel, rose petals, almonds, apples, and peach pieces.

Company: Tea District

Tea Name: Organic Christmas

Tea Type: Black

Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf: Cup/ loose leaf

Liquor Color: Reddish amber

Leaf Characteristics: Tea leaves are a medley of very fine straw like leaves with chunks of cinnamon chips, orange peel, almonds, ginger and bits of peaches.

1st Steeping:

Water temperature: 200 Fahrenheit

Time:    5 minutes

I missed having this tea on Christmas day, although I had put it aside but somehow never got to it. Instead I am having it now.  Better later than not at all.

I like the tea’s mixture and heady sweetness coming from the tea packet upon opening it. I scoop it all out and put it in my tea mug and pour over the boiled water. I leave it to steep for a good five minutes.

The teas aroma is fruity and spicy. I can smell the cinnamon and ginger right away, with hints of orange peel and peaches. When I sip the tea it is sweetly piquant from the ginger chunks. Once I get past the obvious flavors of cinnamon and ginger topping with another layer of fruits like the orange peels and peach, I can discern the almond flavoring as well since the tea has that grainy nutty texture from the almond chunks.

In all this is a very rich tea; filled with a lovely medley of different spice and fruit blending nicely to make this a most memorable cup of tea.

2nd Steeping:

Water temperature: 200 Fahrenheit

Time: 5 minutes

I am able to have another good steep of this tea and the results are similar to first cup.

Overall tasting notes observed: This is a fun tea and drinking it is more like having a cup of herbal tea than black tea with the fruits and spice from the ginger and cinnamon bark.

Tea color: reddish amber

Characteristics: flowery aroma with a sweet, ‘piquant’ liquor.

Tea District describes this tea as-

A beautiful blend of black Chinese tea, cinnamon chips, orange peels, rose petals, blanched almonds, apple, peach and ginger combined together to create a scrumptious Christmas blend. Many of our fans drink this one year round, however it is most popular during the winter and holiday season.

Overall even though Christmas is now over I feel this tea is still very appropriate for the time of year. A great big hug in a mug and I will certainly be happy to drink more of this!

Organic Citrus Ginger Guayusa from Tea District

Tea Name: Organic Citrus Ginger Guayusa

Company: Tea District

Ingredients: Organic Amazon Guayusa, Organic ginger, and Organic orange peel.

Tea Type/Varietal: green/herbal

Region: Amazon

Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf:  cup/ loose leaf

Liquor Color: darken brown with orange base

Leaf Characteristics: very bright green leaves, finely cut with bits of ginger and orange peel.

1st Steeping:

Water temperature:  195 Fahrenheit

Time:    4 minutes

I took one teaspoon of this tea and put it in my cup and poured in the boiled water. I then covered it and left it  to steep for several minutes. When I remove the cover from the tea and strain out the tea leaves, I find that the tea’s color is darken brown but when held under the light it is bright orange. The  teas aroma is of ginger and orange peel. When I take a sip of the tea, I taste the ginger which is very strong (piquant/spicy) a bracing note even and the orange peel hovering in the back ground.

2nd Steeping:

Water temperature: 200 Fahrenheit

Time: 3 minutes

Using the same leaves I take freshly cold tap water and put this in my cup and microwave the tea’s mixture in the cup for two minutes with an extra steep without the oven on.

The tea is simply hotter and more of the ginger spiciness is revealed which adds to the warming effect of the ginger and the orange peel. Guayusa botanicals are filled with energy to awaken the senses.

Overall tasting notes observed:

Tea color: darkish brown with an orange base under the light

Characteristics: a sweet herbal aroma mixed with the guayusa botanicals and herbs like ginger and orange peel.

This is a wonderful tea good for when it is especially cold and needing warmth or to aid with ones digestion as ginger has a soothing effect in coating the stomach.

In all, the ginger in this tea is invigorating and adds pungency in the tea’s flavor; in that it has that peppery ‘bite’ to it, while the oils from the orange peel softens the tea’s pungency.

Tea District describes this tea as-

An Amazonian blend of energizing guayusa with loads of orange peel and ginger.

Health Benefits of Drinking Guayusa*:

  • Boosts Metabolism
  • Traditionally used to support weight loss programs
  • Aids digestion1
  • Traditionally used to balance blood sugar and support diabetics2
  • Boosts Physical Energy
  • Increased mental clarity and alertness

*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Balanced Energy

Guayusa does contain caffeine – more than other teas but less than coffee. One cup of guayusa offers 90 mg of caffeine. Interestingly, guayusa also contains other stimulants in the same family as caffeine, known as methylxanthine alkaloids. Theophylline is a clarifying and uplifting compound also found in green tea. Theobromine is the stimulant found in dark chocolate that offers that pleasant whole body feeling many are familiar with. Theobromine is known to offer a settled and bodily energy. Guayusa’s unique mix of caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine is what gives the balanced energy effect without any jitters, crash, or jolted buzz.

Overall I would describe this tea as a sweet herbal aroma mixed with the guayusa botanicals and herbs like ginger and orange peel.

Title: Açai Berry Raspberry

Company: Tea District

Tea Name: Açai Berry Raspberry

Tea Type/Varietal: Green

Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf:  cup/loose leaf

Liquor Color: light green

Leaf Characteristics: Tea leaves are straw like, very fine with bits of safflower and natural açai berry.

1st Steeping:

Water temperature:  190 Fahrenheit

Time:    3 minutes

I am very happy to be having another of Tea District teas. This one is their Açai Berry Raspberry green tea. I open the pouch and the aroma of the berries is quite noticeable. I scoop out one teaspoon of the tea leaves and put them in my cup and add the boiled water to it. Leaving it to steep for a few minutes; after which I strained the tea into another cup.

The tea color is lightly green and tea’s aroma is a fruity mixture of the berries with green tea. As I sip this tea I notice there is no astringency to the tea at all. It is naturally sweetened with the combination of açai berry and the raspberry.

This is a lovely tea, seems very mild and good for the new year.

2nd Steeping:

Water temperature: 200 Fahrenheit

Time: 4 minutes

I was able to fix another cup of this tea using the same tea leaves and this second cup is as enjoyable as the first cup. Tea taste is true to the cup.

A sweet acai berry and raspberry flavored Chinese sencha green tea.  Acai Berry has recently been studied and has shown weight loss and anti-aging properties – this one may be good for your looks.

Overall I would describe this tea as flowery with a sweetened berry taste.
