Pina Colada Fruit Infusion from Tea Story

  • Type Of leaves: Flavored Tea
  • Name Of Tea: Pina Colada
  • Available From: Tea Story

pina-colada

I received a lovely bunch of samples today from a tea company called Tea Story.

There were various delightful looking teas in the envelope but the one that caught my eye the most was this one

- Pina Colada Fruit Infusion.

I thought that maybe as the day was dark and gloomy outside I could have this tea and be reminded of a hot tropical day spent laying by the beach.

I see when I open my sample pouch that the tea is in bag form and notice that inside the bag there are a vast array of colours pleasing to the eye and instantly the aroma awakens my senses.

Tea Story advise that you use 1 pyramid bag per cup and that you should steep for 3-5mins at 100 degrees.

I prepare my kettle for boiling and while I wait I take in the tropical aromas from the tea bag (very refreshing and reminiscent of a tropical holiday).

My kettle has now boiled so I pour the liquid over my bag and instantly the water turns a very pale pinky red colour.

I cannot stress how refreshing this tea smells as it’s infusing.

The tea contains a tropical blend of coconut, pineapple, hibiscus and apple.

After the recommended brewing time (I went for 5 minutes for maximum flavour) I take a sip and I’m instantly taken away to a tropical land. This tea is amazing!

I am really pleased that how the tea smells is exactly how it tastes.

I get a kick of coconut, then pineapple and the apple and hibiscus are very faint but add to the overall taste sensation.

This tea is a must try if you are feeling a little miserable after the dull weather or if you simply like sweet tasting teas that take you on an overall flavour experience.

This for me is going to be the tea I drink when I am feeling a little down and on the lead up to my summer holiday.

I might also add that I think this would be perfect in the summer as an iced drink maybe mixed with some frozen berries for a full fruity experience.

Tea Story describes this tea as-

Transport yourself to a sun-drenched Caribbean island with this exotic fruit infusion. A totally tropical blend of coconut and pineapple, the taste is underscored by hibiscus and apple. Take a sip, close your eyes and let your senses drift away. Alternatively, it is ideal for enjoying over a chat with friends.

All the sweet fruitiness of its namesake without the alcohol.

Overall I am overjoyed with such an amazing flavoursome tea that can be enjoyed anytime of the day! Thank You Tea Story I give this a firm 10/10.

Organic Christmas Tea from Tea District

Tea District Organic Christmas Tea by Tea District

Title: Organic Christmas Tea

Ingredients: Organic black tea, cinnamon chips, ginger, orange peel, rose petals, almonds, apples, and peach pieces.

Company: Tea District

Tea Name: Organic Christmas

Tea Type: Black

Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf: Cup/ loose leaf

Liquor Color: Reddish amber

Leaf Characteristics: Tea leaves are a medley of very fine straw like leaves with chunks of cinnamon chips, orange peel, almonds, ginger and bits of peaches.

1st Steeping:

Water temperature: 200 Fahrenheit

Time:    5 minutes

I missed having this tea on Christmas day, although I had put it aside but somehow never got to it. Instead I am having it now.  Better later than not at all.

I like the tea’s mixture and heady sweetness coming from the tea packet upon opening it. I scoop it all out and put it in my tea mug and pour over the boiled water. I leave it to steep for a good five minutes.

The teas aroma is fruity and spicy. I can smell the cinnamon and ginger right away, with hints of orange peel and peaches. When I sip the tea it is sweetly piquant from the ginger chunks. Once I get past the obvious flavors of cinnamon and ginger topping with another layer of fruits like the orange peels and peach, I can discern the almond flavoring as well since the tea has that grainy nutty texture from the almond chunks.

In all this is a very rich tea; filled with a lovely medley of different spice and fruit blending nicely to make this a most memorable cup of tea.

2nd Steeping:

Water temperature: 200 Fahrenheit

Time: 5 minutes

I am able to have another good steep of this tea and the results are similar to first cup.

Overall tasting notes observed: This is a fun tea and drinking it is more like having a cup of herbal tea than black tea with the fruits and spice from the ginger and cinnamon bark.

Tea color: reddish amber

Characteristics: flowery aroma with a sweet, ‘piquant’ liquor.

Tea District describes this tea as-

A beautiful blend of black Chinese tea, cinnamon chips, orange peels, rose petals, blanched almonds, apple, peach and ginger combined together to create a scrumptious Christmas blend. Many of our fans drink this one year round, however it is most popular during the winter and holiday season.

Overall even though Christmas is now over I feel this tea is still very appropriate for the time of year. A great big hug in a mug and I will certainly be happy to drink more of this!

Gingerbread House from Tea For All Reasons

[Gingerbread House from Tea For All Reasons]

Whenever I get tea from Tea For All Reasons, the first thing I do is just look at it – TFAR puts so many cool things in their teas that they are always fun just to see. In this case, on the top of the mix was a piece of cinnamon stick, and several chunks of popcorn – very “Christmas-y” looking, since those are things that people use to decorate Christmas trees (and Solstice trees and Yule trees and for that matter, Saturnalia trees). There are also chunks of dried fruit, and lots and lots of currants.

The first thing I could smell was the currants, too, along with a smell of molasses, somehow, though that’s not listed as one of the ingredients. It is an ingredient in gingerbread, though, so the mix of things in here does a good job of conveying baked gingerbread.

Once the tea is brewed, it smells even more strongly of currants and baked goods – I think that the popcorn and almonds help give it that note of baked grains. It’s a very rich full-bodied taste, for an herbal tea – warm, and even, in a way, filling, just as baked cookies would be. But without the calories!!

This makes a terrific dessert tea, especially since it’s caffeine-free, so that it can be served after dinner or even later at night – say, by the fireplace (or the tablet with a flickering fireplace app, if one lives in an urban condo), with “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” playing in the background.

Tea For All Reasons describes this tea as:

This outstanding novelty herbal is deliciously sweet, full of treats, with a heavenly aroma. With it’s [sic] blend of apple, cinnamon, orange bits, almonds, popcorn, currants, pineapple and other flavorings, this will become a favorite for the entire family.

And yes, I will admit it – after brewing my tea, I opened my infuser and ate bits of the tea, especially the plump bits of dried fruit. This isn’t the first TFAR tea where I’ve been tempted to do that, and I’m sure it won’t be the last!

Paradise Found from David’s Tea

Paradise Found from David's TeaPerhaps this is a little “cliché”, but I have found paradise in this tea!  I order from David’s online since I am in Florida and the shop is from Canada.  They always include 3 free samples and this was one of mine.  I read the ingredients (hibiscus, apple, black tea, green tea, orange peel, safflower, cornflower, candied mango) and thought it sounded good, but wasn’t rushing to brew it.  I finally did this morning and have already signed into David’s website to add this to my newest order.

I steeped it using 1.5 tsp of tea to 8 of water (The sample brews approx 28 oz).  I steeped it at 185°F for 6 minutes.  The liquid is a deep cranberry color which really surprised me.  The tea is pleasantly tart (could be because I just brushed my teeth), so I added ¾ tsp of German Rock Sugar to 8 oz of tea to the dry leaves and threw just a touch of white sugar after the brew.

Yum, yum, yum!  I am not exactly sure how to pinpoint the most prominent flavor.  It reminds me of a summer fruit punch or a heavily flavored popsicle.  I can taste the citrus as well as the mango.  The flowery flavors are an undertone.

David’s describes this tea as:

Ever hear about the tea utopia hidden deep in the jungle? Word is, it’s a pretty enchanted place. People say the hibiscus is always in full bloom, the oranges and mangoes are perfectly ripe, and the subtle scent of cornflower and safflower petals hangs in the air. How can you find this earthly paradise? It’s as easy as steeping a cup. One sip of this fruity black and green tea blend will take you right there.

I absolutely recommend this tea to anyone that enjoys an intensely flavored black and green blend with lots of strong citrus and floral flavors. I am drinking this tea hot, however, I wish I had more to brew for a nice iced cup later today.  I am positive this would make a great iced tea to battle these hot June Tampa days!

Watermelon Chill Herbal from Tea Embassy

Watermelon Chill Herbal from Tea EmbassyWow!  What a unique tea!  I purchased this tea online and didn’t really know what to expect.  I had never tried a watermelon tea but thought it was definitely worth a try.  I am so glad that I did.

It’s a hot summer day here in Tampa, Florida and after one sip of the tasty hot tea, I immediately brewed a fresh pot to put in the fridge to serve over ice tomorrow.  The dry tea is a beautiful blend of large fruit pieces.  It smells like a watermelon jolly rancher (my favorite flavor). I am sure that my son would love this tea as well, but I don’t want to share!

This is what Tea Embassy has to say about this tea.

Refreshing and fruity! This herbal fruit tea smells like watermelon bubble gum but tastes like watermelon juice! Serve it as a fancy party beverage with freshly cut watermelon in each glass. Steep for about 10 minutes in boiling water.

The flavor of the tea is like a true watermelon.  I had to review the ingredients again because I was so surprised that it didn’t include watermelon (ingredients: apple bits, carrot flakes, honeydew melon cubes, flavoring, beet root and strawberry slices).

I steeped 1.5 tsp of tea in my little infuser with boiling water for 8 minutes.  I added 1 tsp of German Rock Sugar, but I don’t think it was necessary.

Youthberry Flavored White from Teavana

  • Type Of leaves: White Tea
  • Name Of Tea: Youthberry Flavored White
  • Available From: Teavana

Youthberry Flavored White from TeavanaThis is a very interesting tea to me because I cannot describe the most prominent flavor.  It is a mixture of many delicious fruits and florals (white tea, candied mango pieces, candied pineapple, rosehip peels, apple bits, hibiscus flowers, red currants, rose petals, acai fruit powder).  I will admit that this is one of my favorite fruity teas, however, having a favorite tea is like having a favorite child, so I try not to have “favorites”.

It is one that I will open the tin just to sniff even when I don’t plan to steep it.  The tea has lots of pretty white tea leaves and a generous amount of large fruit pieces and flowers.

I brewed the teafor 2 minutes at 175°F using 1.5 tsp of tea to 8 oz of water.  This tea is very sensitive to temperature so if you find the tea bitter, that could be why.  I added 1 tsp of German Rock Sugar to each 8 oz of water to sweeten it up.  The tea is a slight pink color.

Teavana describes this tea as:

Youthful and fresh, this clean and crisp, pale pink, blushing tea is made from candied pineapple and mango pieces with Fuji and Golden Delicious apples added for spirit. ‘Superfruits’ red currant and acai berry create a youthful glow in this medley of smart, bright, refreshingly soft white tea. SUPERFRUIT ENHANCED.  Refreshing sweet pineapple and fruity acai berry infusion with subtle floral finish.

I find the white tea such an undertone that it is more like an herbal to me.  As I sit here and struggle for the words to describe the perfection that is this tea, I have opened the tea and sniffed it 4 times!  I can smell the pineapple and some mango.  The flavor of the tea is just a mix of the ingredients, it is so flavorful that it is almost like a juice.

A highly recommended white tea if you are looking for something fun and different.

Joie de Vivre Herbal from Teavana

Joie de Vivre Herbal from TeavanaThis is one of my favorites.  I often walk to my tea cabinet just to smell this blend.  The second my tin is open, my mouth waters!  The tea smells so sweet, that it’s like a snack.  The tea consists of large pieces of fruit that remind me of a fresh fruit trail mix.

The smell of the tea is similar to fruit salad.  You can really smell the sweetness of the peach and apple.  The ingredients are: peach pieces (with separating agent rice flour), grapes, apple pieces, fig slices, candied peach pieces (peach, sugar), flavoring (peach, grape, vanilla, pepper), plum pieces (with separating agent rice flour), apple slices, pepper, vanilla pieces, orange pieces.  The tea is so fresh that the pieces are still moist!

I steeped this tea in my little cup infuser with boiling water for 6 minutes.  I used 2 tsp of tea to 10 oz of water and added 1 tsp of German Rock Sugar.  The color of the liquid is a beautiful golden-yellow.  Some of the flavors sink to the bottom so it’s important to swirl before you sip – like a fine wine!  Although overall, I would describe this tea is fairly mild, it packs a LOT of fruit flavor.

Teavana describes this tea as:

A toast to ‘the good life,’ joy and celebration abound with each sip of this ‘champagne’ of herbal teas. Sip the delicate pale yellow liquor with golden highlights of sweet white peaches, candied lemon, regal figs and a creamy Madagascar vanilla ending. A seamless blend of happiness in a cup. Sweet peach and grape with lingering citrus & a hint of white pepper and vanilla.

The taste is just heaven to me.  I can definitely taste the peach and there is a little kick at the end which must be the vanilla and citrus.  It’s hard to pinpoint the most prominent flavor since there are so many mellow fruits in this blend.

This is such a sweet blend of perfection great for bedtime!
