Raspberry & Apricot Delight from iHeart Teas

Raspberry & Apricot Green Tea Delight by iHeart TeasTotally unexpected delight. First of all the aroma of this tea is of warm vanilla sugar and berries. The smell was so warm, so inviting, so sweet, and so natural smelling. It really reminded me of the caramelized sugar on top of a crème brûlée with wild berry glaze on the side.

The very fist sip was that of raspberry but it quickly faded into a warm sugared apricot flavor but not a sticky sweet sugar, rather a very natural sugar flavor. Finally, an apricot I could fully appreciate, as I have had issues with finding an apricot tea I like recently.

What I liked most about this tea, and its flavoring was that I could still taste the green tea base beneath it. Often times when I have tried blends from artesian, or smaller tea vendors I find that the flavors are artificial, cloying, or chemical. This tea was wonderfully mastered! I am impressed! This is one of the best teas from a non commercial tea vendor I have ever tasted!

What iHeart Teas says about Raspberry & Apricot Green Tea Delight:

A light and fruity handcrafted green tea blend with pieces of sweet raspberries and delicate bits of apricot.  Wonderful both hot and cold.

Recommended Steeping parameters:  1 tsp at 175°F for 2 mins

Steeping parameters are recommended based on the way I enjoyed this particular blend personally.  Feel free to play and discover how you enjoy it best.

The liquor appeared oily and heavy in the cup at first pour and I did have some reservations thinking maybe the blend would not be very good but I was so wrong. The tea did have a full mouthfeel to it with that heavy feel but it was so juicy, mouth-watering, delicious!

This is an inconspicuous tea, it does not force you to take notice, rather allows you to simply meld into its splendor! I found that none of the flavors fought one another for attention. While vanilla was not mentioned in the name or ingredients of this tea I swear I could taste a hint of natural vanilla!

There were actual pieces of fruit in the blend just as stated on the site!  I loved the fresh tart apricot, the sharp but sweet raspberries, and the wonderful green tea base, it is naturally sweet so no sugar is needed.

The caramelized sugar aroma was mesmerizing! My mouth is watering as I write this review just thinking about the juicy fruity flavors I so enjoyed! Time to go brew another pot!

Shanghai Orchid White from Teavana

  • Type Of leaves: White Tea
  • Name Of Tea: Shanghai Orchid White
  • Available From: Teavana

Shanghai Orchid White from TeavanaThis tea is a very floral tasting tea.  I do enjoy a strong flavored tea and this one definitely hits the spot.  It reminds me of a discontinued tea from Teavana “Sweet Lily White”.  Although the ingredients do include apple, papaya and candied melons, the dominant flavor is floral.  The dried tea seems as though it is 50% fruit and flowers and 50% white tea leaves.  It smells clean and fresh.

I steeped the tea with 1.5 tsp of tea and 1 tsp of German Rock Sugar to 8 oz of 180°F water for 3 minutes.

Teavana describes this tea as:

An exotic union of floral and fruit, Shanghai Orchid’s exquisite fragrance transports you to a meditation garden in full bloom. Summoning the harmonious blend of two souls intertwined, the enchantingly spiritual blossoms and delicate fruits conquer all in one sweet sip as this white tea sings top notes of orchid, melon and citrus. Love, meet your proverbial match. SUPERFRUIT ENHANCED. Fragrant floral infusion with soft citrus and melon undertones.  Ingredients: White tea, rosehip peels, apple pieces, candied melon pieces (melon, sugar, citric acid), papaya bits, hibiscus flowers, lemon myrtle, flavoring (orchid, lily of the valley), cornflower petals

The tea has a unique floral flavor from the first sip to the finish. If the tea is too “perfumy” for your taste, I recommend adding some additional white tea leaves to soften the flavor. The white tea is an undertone to the strong floral flavor. It has a nice, smooth flavor.

I enjoy this tea hot, although it is good as an iced tea, the floral flavors are a little too strong once it has a chance to chill.

Youthberry Flavored White from Teavana

  • Type Of leaves: White Tea
  • Name Of Tea: Youthberry Flavored White
  • Available From: Teavana

Youthberry Flavored White from TeavanaThis is a very interesting tea to me because I cannot describe the most prominent flavor.  It is a mixture of many delicious fruits and florals (white tea, candied mango pieces, candied pineapple, rosehip peels, apple bits, hibiscus flowers, red currants, rose petals, acai fruit powder).  I will admit that this is one of my favorite fruity teas, however, having a favorite tea is like having a favorite child, so I try not to have “favorites”.

It is one that I will open the tin just to sniff even when I don’t plan to steep it.  The tea has lots of pretty white tea leaves and a generous amount of large fruit pieces and flowers.

I brewed the teafor 2 minutes at 175°F using 1.5 tsp of tea to 8 oz of water.  This tea is very sensitive to temperature so if you find the tea bitter, that could be why.  I added 1 tsp of German Rock Sugar to each 8 oz of water to sweeten it up.  The tea is a slight pink color.

Teavana describes this tea as:

Youthful and fresh, this clean and crisp, pale pink, blushing tea is made from candied pineapple and mango pieces with Fuji and Golden Delicious apples added for spirit. ‘Superfruits’ red currant and acai berry create a youthful glow in this medley of smart, bright, refreshingly soft white tea. SUPERFRUIT ENHANCED.  Refreshing sweet pineapple and fruity acai berry infusion with subtle floral finish.

I find the white tea such an undertone that it is more like an herbal to me.  As I sit here and struggle for the words to describe the perfection that is this tea, I have opened the tea and sniffed it 4 times!  I can smell the pineapple and some mango.  The flavor of the tea is just a mix of the ingredients, it is so flavorful that it is almost like a juice.

A highly recommended white tea if you are looking for something fun and different.

Blueberry Merlot from Tea Forté

  • Type Of leaves: Herbal Tea
  • Name Of Tea: Blueberry Merlot
  • Available From: Tea Forté

Blueberry Merlot from Tea FortéThis is such a fun tisane! After multiple steeps and trying this tea many different ways I have really come to appreciate this sweet, tart, savory, drink! I got it just in time for summer too as this is going to make a killer summer drink!

Now yes, it does have hibiscus, and yes it is indeed tart, especially in the first steep, however as the delicate yet sharp hibiscus fades the other flavors of this tea are only ripening!

I have to admit, there are a number of things that turned me on about this tea when reading about it. First Merlot, I used to love, absolutely love a quality Merlot, however, I have not had a sip of alcohol for years now, it’s just too dangerous for me with my health conditions. Then the sage, oh sweet wonderful sage, I grow tons of it in my garden. Actually, it grows itself now and has went from a mild-mannered plant in a small area of my garden into wildly taking over an entire section of my yard, but I love it and there it will stay.

Then, well, blueberry, I do enjoy blueberries. The hibiscus, I can take it or leave it, I don’t mind it nearly as much as some people do, but I will attest to the fact that I feel it is over used in this tea and this tea would have perhaps been yummier without its intensity, or at least with a reduced level of its inclusion!

Then again, as I had said the hibiscus does tend to fade quickly so maybe the line of thought was that if it were not as inclusive by the second steep would be non-existent and not do what it was meant to do in this tea in the first place. That which I believe would be to give this tea a sour like flavor of a wine. Not sour as in vinegar, but just that dry snap of a tart you get from a wine. After all, I am not the blender who won first place for Best Herbal Tea in the North American Tea Championship in 2011, no, that would be Tea Forté for this very tea!

What Tea Forté says about Blueberry Merlot:

Steeping Guidelines:  Steep for 5 minutes, 208°F - For stronger flavor, steep longer.
Ingredients: organic rosehips, organic hibiscus, organic blueberries, organic sage, natural flavors, organic cornflower blossoms

Oh did I mention this tea is organic?

Blueberry Merlot is part of Forté Teas Skin-Smart line which has something to do with tea making your skin beautiful. I won’t get into that but you can get more info regarding this line and others offered by Tea Forté on their site.

Now as I had mentioned at the beginning of this review, I tried this tea many ways. The first steep I had it straight, no sugar, no cream, etc. It was good but face puckering tart almost. Second steep was much smoother, the hibiscus was easing off. Half way though this cup I added sugar, I use sugar in the raw, I think I over did it, adding just a touch makes this tea a lovely dessert tea but you can easily go overboard making it like a blueberry jam with a mellow sage cooling effect on the after taste.

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing but it was just too much of a kick in the blood sugar for me so I added water and steeped a little longer. Yes this is a forgiving tisane, then once I had it level with a balanced amount of sugar, I added some milk. Now it was like a blueberry cream pie!!

The sage did get a little muddled down in the mix though but hey I had put it through its paces! Now I am at steep three and while it is a lot less flavorful, and the hibiscus is all but a faint memory, I am going to ice it down and enjoy it outside in about an hour! Talk about versatility! So many ways to enjoy this one, and while it is not exactly Merlot, I did find myself giggly and acting silly while having fun playing around with this tea!

Citrus Piledriver from 52Teas

Citrus Piledriver from 52TeasWow!  This is really good.  It is smooth and sweet and citrus-y, but, without being too tart.  And all the while, I can feel it invigorating me with its caffeinated charge.

What I find so remarkable about it is that while I can FEEL it energizing me, it doesn’t taste like an overly sugary sweet energy drink, nor does it have a bitter jolt like coffee.  And there is no astringency.  Just a smooth, sweet, delicious taste that I’d enjoy waking up to every morning.

The medley of citrus flavors meld together seamlessly, tasting a bit like a sweet orange, with just enough tangy taste to keep it interesting, but no tartness to make me pucker.  I love the addition of the peach flavor, it really smooths out the flavor, giving it an almost creamy, nectar-y kind of taste.

Three different herbal leaves make up the base of this tisane:  Guayusa, roasted Yerba Maté and green Yerba Maté.  Of these three, it is the Guayusa that offers the strongest flavor.  It is earthy and smooth.  I also taste a slight vegetal taste from the green Yerba Maté, and a hint of roasted flavor from the roasted Yerba Maté.  I like that this trio of caffeinated herbs does not taste too vegetal or earthy, but still provide a solid base of flavor for the strong citrus tones.

THIS is the tisane you want to reach for on those mornings when you’d rather stay in bed but you have to get up … there are things to be done!  You know the kind of days I’m talking about, right?  This is what to brew on days like that.  I steeped this for 5 minutes using 195°F water, and the results are amazing … and effective!

52Teas describes this eye-opening blend as

For those times when you need more kick than citrus PUNCH, here’s Citrus PILEDRIVER.  It’s a wake up and take the day by the horns and teach it who’s boss blend of highly caffeinated Ecuadorian Guayusa, green yerba mate, roasted yerba mate, orange peel, lemongrass, lemon verbena, lemon balm, lemon myrtle and natural citrus and other fruit flavors like lemon, orange, pineapple and peach.

The aroma of this tea is an amazing, eye-opening, “GOOD MORNING TO YOU” and that’s before you even take a sip.

This is a remarkably tasty, energizing tisane without all the sugar of one of those energy drinks, and without the crash a few hours later!   An excellent way to supercharge your day!

Peach Apricot Honeybush from Tea Embassy

Peach Apricot Honeybush from Tea EmbassyAnother delicious tea from Tea Embassy.  I am not always a fan of Honeybush and since I ordered this tea online, I had to take my chances.  I really enjoy this fruity tea.  All I can compare it to is a cup of Southern Sweet Tea!  The dried tea is so enticing with large pieces of fruit and green honeybush leaves.  I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of fruit in the blend.

I steeped the tea in my cup infuser in 208°F water for 5 minutes.  I used 1 heaping tsp of tea with a pinch of white sugar to 8 oz of water.  The tea is a pretty reddish-brown liquid.  I am currently drinking this tea hot, but I just know that it would be delicious iced.

The flavor of the tea is definitely peach!  A huge plus for me considering the base is honeybush.  There is an undertone of the creamy tea, but it really is an afterthought.

Tea Embassy describes this tea as:

Delightful, fruity, herbal tea that is wonderful hot or iced. Honeybush is the sister plant to Rooibos and also comes from South Africa, but has a naturally sweeter taste compared to Rooibos. This tasty blend includes green honeybush, apricot bits, peach bits, orange peels, pineapple bits, papaya bits, and flavoring. Naturally caffeine free.

I love that this tea does linger on your tongue and has a very nice fruity after taste.  Although the ingredients do not list this – I do have just a HINT and I mean a HINT of mint?  Maybe it’s in the leaves?  I am not very familiar with green honeybush so perhaps that is a characteristic.  An amazing blend with a very flavorful peach.

Mango Medley Black from Tea Embassy

Mango Medley Black from Tea EmbassyThe smell of this tea is such a sweet surprise!  I ordered this online from www.teaembassy.com and have discovered another delicious black to add to my collection.  The dried tea is a blend of black tea, yellow leaves and mango pieces.

Although the ingredients on the bag only shows “black tea with mango pieces and flavoring”, I do sense some vanilla undertones both in the smell and the flavor of the tea.  I steeped the tea in my little cup infuser using 1 heaping tsp of tea to 8 oz of water.  I brewed in 212°F water for 5 minutes.  The color of the tea is a deep, dark brown so I will probably use a little less tea next time.

Tea Embassy describes this tea as:

Fruity black tea blend with mango bits and flavoring. This tea is excellent ICED!

Although the description is brief, the tea has a lot of flavor and I would highly recommend trying it.  If you enjoyed flavored black teas, you will like this one.

The flavor of the tea is very smooth with the sweet taste of the mango really shining through.  99% of the time, I do add sweetener to my teas, but this one does not need it.  This tea would also be an excellent iced tea!
