Gingerbread House from Tea For All Reasons

[Gingerbread House from Tea For All Reasons]

Whenever I get tea from Tea For All Reasons, the first thing I do is just look at it – TFAR puts so many cool things in their teas that they are always fun just to see. In this case, on the top of the mix was a piece of cinnamon stick, and several chunks of popcorn – very “Christmas-y” looking, since those are things that people use to decorate Christmas trees (and Solstice trees and Yule trees and for that matter, Saturnalia trees). There are also chunks of dried fruit, and lots and lots of currants.

The first thing I could smell was the currants, too, along with a smell of molasses, somehow, though that’s not listed as one of the ingredients. It is an ingredient in gingerbread, though, so the mix of things in here does a good job of conveying baked gingerbread.

Once the tea is brewed, it smells even more strongly of currants and baked goods – I think that the popcorn and almonds help give it that note of baked grains. It’s a very rich full-bodied taste, for an herbal tea – warm, and even, in a way, filling, just as baked cookies would be. But without the calories!!

This makes a terrific dessert tea, especially since it’s caffeine-free, so that it can be served after dinner or even later at night – say, by the fireplace (or the tablet with a flickering fireplace app, if one lives in an urban condo), with “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” playing in the background.

Tea For All Reasons describes this tea as:

This outstanding novelty herbal is deliciously sweet, full of treats, with a heavenly aroma. With it’s [sic] blend of apple, cinnamon, orange bits, almonds, popcorn, currants, pineapple and other flavorings, this will become a favorite for the entire family.

And yes, I will admit it – after brewing my tea, I opened my infuser and ate bits of the tea, especially the plump bits of dried fruit. This isn’t the first TFAR tea where I’ve been tempted to do that, and I’m sure it won’t be the last!

Wild Blueberry from Republic of Tea

Wild Blueberry from Republic of TeaThe first sip of this lively tea brings to mind the sweet juiciness of fresh blueberries.  The delectable berry aroma is present from the first moment of opening the tea canister.  It is more subdued in the tea liquor itself, but the quaint flavor of the tea takes the stage at that point.

This blend comes in neatly packaged round teabags.  Republic of Tea uses natural, unbleached teabags, so rest assured that there is no flavor tainting from the teabag itself.  A fragrance of sweet blueberries will assail your senses as you pluck a teabag from the canister for steeping.  The color of this tea liquor is a dark reddish-brown.  The first discernible taste of the tea liquor is malty.  The blueberry flavor plays its part next and lingers for a sweet finish.

A cup of this tea is best prepared with fresh, boiling water and infused for 3-5 minutes.  Personally I’ve found that the full 5 minutes of steeping will extract the complete lineup of blueberry flavor notes.  When unsweetened, this tea has a tenuous trace of bitterness, but it becomes perfectly pleasing and full-flavored with a touch of milk and sweetener.  Imagine the taste of a fresh-baked, still-warm blueberry muffin and you’ll comprehend the simple deliciousness of this tea.  Although I’ve yet to sample this blend iced, I’m sure it will be as equally savory chilled as it is hot.

Republic of Tea describes this tea as:

A Harmonious blend, sweet with the lushness of blueberries and counterbalanced with rich, malty notes of fine black tea.

One unique aspect of this tea is that it is one of many blends offered by Republic of Tea that is “Fair Trade Certified”.  This a U.S.-based program that ensures tea workers around the world receive fair wages.  Another facet of this tea is that it is a limited edition blend, which means that only a certain quantity is produced one time.  This is a sad fact, but it only reiterates that this is choice tea to be relished while it is available.

I wish I could magically send the aroma to you along with this review, oh dear reader, so you too could experience the pure delight of this tea’s luscious scent.  I’m off to dote on another cuppa of Wild Blueberry, perhaps complimented by a warm blueberry scone!

Pineapple Kona Pop Herbal from Teavana

Pineapple Kona Pop Herbal from TeavanaAloha!!   This is a lovely sweet herbal that brings you straight to the islands!  The tea is a pretty blend of fruit and flower petals.  Ingredients include apple pieces, candied pineapple pieces, pineapple flavoring, rose blossom leaves, rosebuds, marigold blossoms, mallow blossoms, orange blossoms and cornflower blossoms.

I steeped 1.5 tsp of tea to 10 oz of water in my Tipping Teacup for 8 minutes at 212°F.  I added 1 tsp of German Rock Sugar, although most people will find the tea sweet enough on its own.  The tea brews to a deep yellow color and the re-hydrated fruit is good enough to eat.

Teavana describes this tea as:

Journey to paradise as you sink your toes into the warm, white sand beaches of Hawaii with each tantalizingly tropical cup. An oasis awaits your senses as fresh grown pineapple & crisp white apple pieces meeting fragrant marigold, orange & mallow blossoms giving this vacation blend a tartly smooth ‘aloha’ inspired finish. Pineapple and citrus infusion with light floral undertones.

The flavor of the tea is a delicious fruity indulgence! The initial taste of the tea is tart on your tongue, like a pleasant surprise. The finish is a sweet pineapple. The tea has undertones of floral and apple, but it is one of those teas that changes throughout your sip.

Youthberry Flavored White from Teavana

  • Type Of leaves: White Tea
  • Name Of Tea: Youthberry Flavored White
  • Available From: Teavana

Youthberry Flavored White from TeavanaThis is a very interesting tea to me because I cannot describe the most prominent flavor.  It is a mixture of many delicious fruits and florals (white tea, candied mango pieces, candied pineapple, rosehip peels, apple bits, hibiscus flowers, red currants, rose petals, acai fruit powder).  I will admit that this is one of my favorite fruity teas, however, having a favorite tea is like having a favorite child, so I try not to have “favorites”.

It is one that I will open the tin just to sniff even when I don’t plan to steep it.  The tea has lots of pretty white tea leaves and a generous amount of large fruit pieces and flowers.

I brewed the teafor 2 minutes at 175°F using 1.5 tsp of tea to 8 oz of water.  This tea is very sensitive to temperature so if you find the tea bitter, that could be why.  I added 1 tsp of German Rock Sugar to each 8 oz of water to sweeten it up.  The tea is a slight pink color.

Teavana describes this tea as:

Youthful and fresh, this clean and crisp, pale pink, blushing tea is made from candied pineapple and mango pieces with Fuji and Golden Delicious apples added for spirit. ‘Superfruits’ red currant and acai berry create a youthful glow in this medley of smart, bright, refreshingly soft white tea. SUPERFRUIT ENHANCED.  Refreshing sweet pineapple and fruity acai berry infusion with subtle floral finish.

I find the white tea such an undertone that it is more like an herbal to me.  As I sit here and struggle for the words to describe the perfection that is this tea, I have opened the tea and sniffed it 4 times!  I can smell the pineapple and some mango.  The flavor of the tea is just a mix of the ingredients, it is so flavorful that it is almost like a juice.

A highly recommended white tea if you are looking for something fun and different.

Coconut Creme from Persimmon Tree Tea

Coconut Creme from Persimmon Tree Tea

This was one that surprised me. For some reason when I first smelled the tea in dry state I was a little put off. I don’t know why and can’t explain it. I like coconut, I like crème, I didn’t have issue with any ingredient in the tea. Still, something made me go hummm. Still, of course, I steeped it.

First cup, I was still hesitant to decide if I liked it or not. I quizzed myself as to what my issue was, was it the flavoring? I looked at the dry leaf left in my sample bag again. White Tea, Safflowers, Cornflowers, Coconut, check. All the ingredients as listed on their site were in the bag. Could it be that I was simply not used to all natural flavorings?

I thought about it, I do love coconut teas, have a few of them in my favorites stash. All of them however upon further inspection had no actual coconut in them! Interesting. All artificially flavored or at least only flavored with natural coconut oils, but not coconut itself. At this point I was angry with myself! How could someone who is so into natural flavorings get to this place? Being suspicious by an ingredient being exactly what it is supposed to be!? Then it hit me, the smell was coconut, RAW NATURAL COCONUT! So somehow this nature girl got taken in by, or used to the artificial coconut, or at least natural coconut flavorings, and forgot what real coconut tasted like in a tea! So now, upon looking at this dry, and steeped leaf, I saw all the little shreds of coconut through out it! Smiling I took another sip. Yes, that is it, real coconut! Yummm!

I found myself gulping down the first steep, then a second, then a third! The smell of the beach, fresh ocean water aromas, and that strange and wonderful coconut aroma with a milky creamy backdrop, soothed me. I was shocked for some reason to get such flavor out of steep three! Granted this tea is blended with a very nice white peony tea base but still, I am not used to getting three healthy and rich steeps from flavored teas in my experience, at least it is not the norm, especially with white tea based flavored teas!

What Persimmon Tree Tea has to say about Coconut Creme:

This organic white peony loose-leaf tea hand-blended with coconut, safflowers, and cornflowers, delivers a sweet and creamy texture with a light body. Bound to become a favorite among family and friends; enjoy hot or iced.

I steeped this tea using 2 teaspoons of loose leaf tea, at 180˚for 4 minutes.

The milky cream backdrop was not over done. Often when cream or milk based teas I find that it is so strong it masks the other flavors in the tea. With this tea I could savor the quality white peony base, the coconut, the floral aspects, and the crème flavors perfectly.

This is an organic tea that is quite refreshing and I can’t wait to try it iced! This tea really has grown on me, in fact I woke up this morning thinking about it and am about to step away from writing this review to steep another cup, or maybe a pot of it now! Thankfully Persimmon Tree Tea sends generous sized samples!

Happy 4th of July America!

Citrus Piledriver from 52Teas

Citrus Piledriver from 52TeasWow!  This is really good.  It is smooth and sweet and citrus-y, but, without being too tart.  And all the while, I can feel it invigorating me with its caffeinated charge.

What I find so remarkable about it is that while I can FEEL it energizing me, it doesn’t taste like an overly sugary sweet energy drink, nor does it have a bitter jolt like coffee.  And there is no astringency.  Just a smooth, sweet, delicious taste that I’d enjoy waking up to every morning.

The medley of citrus flavors meld together seamlessly, tasting a bit like a sweet orange, with just enough tangy taste to keep it interesting, but no tartness to make me pucker.  I love the addition of the peach flavor, it really smooths out the flavor, giving it an almost creamy, nectar-y kind of taste.

Three different herbal leaves make up the base of this tisane:  Guayusa, roasted Yerba Maté and green Yerba Maté.  Of these three, it is the Guayusa that offers the strongest flavor.  It is earthy and smooth.  I also taste a slight vegetal taste from the green Yerba Maté, and a hint of roasted flavor from the roasted Yerba Maté.  I like that this trio of caffeinated herbs does not taste too vegetal or earthy, but still provide a solid base of flavor for the strong citrus tones.

THIS is the tisane you want to reach for on those mornings when you’d rather stay in bed but you have to get up … there are things to be done!  You know the kind of days I’m talking about, right?  This is what to brew on days like that.  I steeped this for 5 minutes using 195°F water, and the results are amazing … and effective!

52Teas describes this eye-opening blend as

For those times when you need more kick than citrus PUNCH, here’s Citrus PILEDRIVER.  It’s a wake up and take the day by the horns and teach it who’s boss blend of highly caffeinated Ecuadorian Guayusa, green yerba mate, roasted yerba mate, orange peel, lemongrass, lemon verbena, lemon balm, lemon myrtle and natural citrus and other fruit flavors like lemon, orange, pineapple and peach.

The aroma of this tea is an amazing, eye-opening, “GOOD MORNING TO YOU” and that’s before you even take a sip.

This is a remarkably tasty, energizing tisane without all the sugar of one of those energy drinks, and without the crash a few hours later!   An excellent way to supercharge your day!

Mango Medley Black from Tea Embassy

Mango Medley Black from Tea EmbassyThe smell of this tea is such a sweet surprise!  I ordered this online from www.teaembassy.com and have discovered another delicious black to add to my collection.  The dried tea is a blend of black tea, yellow leaves and mango pieces.

Although the ingredients on the bag only shows “black tea with mango pieces and flavoring”, I do sense some vanilla undertones both in the smell and the flavor of the tea.  I steeped the tea in my little cup infuser using 1 heaping tsp of tea to 8 oz of water.  I brewed in 212°F water for 5 minutes.  The color of the tea is a deep, dark brown so I will probably use a little less tea next time.

Tea Embassy describes this tea as:

Fruity black tea blend with mango bits and flavoring. This tea is excellent ICED!

Although the description is brief, the tea has a lot of flavor and I would highly recommend trying it.  If you enjoyed flavored black teas, you will like this one.

The flavor of the tea is very smooth with the sweet taste of the mango really shining through.  99% of the time, I do add sweetener to my teas, but this one does not need it.  This tea would also be an excellent iced tea!
