Caramel Apple from Cuppa Tea With Me

Caramel Apple from Cuppa Tea With MeI was thrilled to receive this tea from a friend recently.  It is an excellent tisane!

The scent of the dry leaf is strong, and I can’t really say that it smells a lot like apples or caramel.  What it smells like to me is flavoring oil.  Having flavored/blended quite a few teas over the past decade, I’m quite familiar with the scent!  But that’s OK, it just means that this blend will be well flavored, and when it comes to {en:Rooibos} blends, I like them well flavored.

I was also happy to see that this is a blend of rooibos and honeybush.  I find that I prefer a blending of the two leaves rather than just rooibos.  I think that the honeybush mellows out the flavor of the rooibos very nicely.  It certainly has in the case of this particular tisane.

The base of this blend (the rooibos and honeybush) do not present strong flavors of their own in this blend – although I can taste the sweet honey taste of the honeybush, and a hint of woody tones from the rooibos and honeybush.

The strongest flavor here is that of the apple, followed closely by the caramel.  It tastes like a crisp, juicy apple that has been dunked in caramel sauce!  YUM!  But unlike the apples in caramel sauce, this tisane won’t result in a sticky mess.  The caramel tastes sweet, and the undertones of the honeybush compliment the caramel notes well.

Cuppa Tea With Me describes this blend as

Ingredients:  Rooibos, Honeybush, Caramel Bits, Apple Bits, Marigold Blossoms, Flavoring.

Caffeine Free

This is really delicious.  The apple and caramel flavors are very strong and taste very dessert-y!  Perfect to serve as a dessert alternative to those who want something sweet but don’t want the fat and calories.  And with the honey sweet taste of the honeybush, you really don’t need to add any additional sweetener.  This is one of the best calorie free desserts I’ve ever tasted!

Of course, if you wish to add a little drizzle of agave nectar, it will still add up to considerably fewer calories than apples with caramel syrup – which is what this tastes like!  Another bonus – this one doesn’t stick to your teeth the way caramel can!
