Caramelized Pear Rooibos by Tropical Tea Co.

Caramelized Pear Rooibos from Tropical Tea CompanyThis was my very first cup of Rooibos.  When trying out new styles of tea that I’m not sure I’ll like, I like to try one that has some added flavor to it, which is why I decided to have this tea as my first rooibos.

Rooibos is very finely ground, and there are no big leaves to look at here. But what I did like was the large pieces of pear which magically grew as they re-hydrated in the water.   One thing I love about good tea brands is they hardly use any artificial flavoring. Instead, if they want to have a fruit flavor, they just add the fruit itself!

Tropical Tea Co. describes this tea as:

A sweet and flavorful herbal blend with flavor notes of honey, caramel, and fresh baked pear.

Rooibos is said to have a slight nutty and smoky flavor, and I would definitely agree to that. But it is a smooth flavor, and this tea didn’t have any bitterness. There is a tang in the caramelized pear flavor that tastes slightly alcoholic, but also an added sweetness.

I’m not a coffee drinker, but if I can judge all rooibos by this one, it has the closest coffee flavor to any other type of tea.  The tea is ground so finely that it almost looks like coffee grounds (but when it brews the tea is reddish/brown in color).

If you are new to rooibos, I think you would do well to start with this tea, and if you are a old hat, I think you would enjoy the flavor of this tea as well.
