Coconut Chai from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea

Coconut Chai from Zhena’s Gypsy TeaThis is a tea that I’ve been meaning to try for a very long time.  I am so glad that I’ve finally had the opportunity to – because it’s fantastic!  Really yummy!

The coconut flavor is stronger than I expected it to be – I’m not sure exactly what I was expecting or why… perhaps I was thinking that the coconut might be overwhelmed by {en:chai} spice?  I don’t know – and it is in perfect harmony with the {en:Masala} spice blend.  The spices are not overwhelming and do not overpower the coconut, while the coconut’s natural sweetness brings out some of the warmth of the spices.  It’s synergy in a teacup!

The Black Tea base used here is mild and smooth; presenting very little astringency and no bitterness to the cup.  It just delivers its pleasing, mellow flavor and allows the other flavors to do their thing.

As I mentioned before, the spices are not strong or overwhelming.  It is a very enjoyable mixture of spices – I can taste notes from each spice but I don’t think that there is one dominant spice, which is not always the case when it comes to a Chai Tea.  I can taste a hint of orange – just a hint – and it adds a fresh, vibrant quality to the cup.

But the real focus of this tea is the coconut!  It is sweet and delicious, and I really like that tropical touch that it adds to the tea.  It makes what might otherwise be an ordinary chai tea extraordinary.

Zhena’s Gypsy Tea describes this chai blend as

WELCOME TO THE FRAGRANT AND DELICIOUS REALM OF AROMATHERAPY. This tea is the result of carefully crafted blending, to ensure that the essential harmony of the botanicals healthful properties yield a superb tea experience.

Paradise Found Tea

A robust and full flavored black tea accented with exotic imperial spices. The bold concentrated character of this lush black tea lends itself well to the full notes of cardamom, ginger and clove. The sweet hint of tropical coconut fragrantly fills the cup, offering an inviting taste of paradise to savor from any spot on the map. Delicious with a splash of milk. A bright and flavorful steep. Sunglasses not included.

Ingredients: Indian black tea, org. cinnamon, org. ginger, org. cardamom pods, org. whole cloves, organic orange peels, org. nutmeg, org. black pepper, organic cinnamon essential oil, organic coconut flavor.

I enjoyed this tea warm, but I think it would work well as an iced tea as well.  Ordinarily, with a chai tea, a little natural sweetener (such as honey, agave nectar or sugar) will help bring out some of the spices in the tea, but with this tea an additional sweetener is not really needed, because the coconut gives it just the right amount of sweetness.  I didn’t try this tea “latte” style but I think that a splash of milk (or coconut milk!) would be very nice in this as well.  YUMMY!

Hmmm…How do I start? Oh! I know. Delicious! This is a fantastic tea, but as it says on the label, “Sunglasses not included.”

While sipping this tea I couldn’t help but to imagine relaxing on a secluded cozy Indian beach listening to the waves (not really, it is just tea, but I can dream).

This tea has the distinct taste of Chai, however not as spicy as some, and a splash of coconut for the taste buds, although the aroma is amazing. It’s smooth! One could compare it to the difference between drinking Jack Daniels and Crown Royal, with this tea being Crown. You may pay a few dollars more but it wont burn going down.

As the author of this post stated this tea needs no sweetening, just a cup and 30 minutes to enjoy. Do not hesitate to pick this tea up if you get the chance.
