Coconut White Masala Chai from Yogic Chai

Coconut White Masala ChaiSilky smooth is the best way to describe this {en:chai} tea.  If you like a chai with a smooth finish, that still has a pronounced spicy flavor, then this coconut White Tea masala chai, will be sure to please.  It builds on Yogic Chai Tea‘s Original Masala Chai blend, adding tons of coconut slivers and a lovely white tea to form the base of this chai.

I prepared this tea in traditional chai fashion, with ample sweetener and my favorite Soy milk blend from 8th Continent.

Yogic Chai describes this tea as:

– Bai Mu Dan (white Tea): High in antioxidants*, Bai Mu Dan is picked early in the season when the buds are still fresh, young and tender. Because of this early picking, the taste white tea produces is very mild, and sweet without the sometimes astringent qualities of regular Green Teas.

– Cardamom: A household spice that is commonly used to support digestion without increasing Heat.* It has expectorant and diaphoretic actions.* The mucus forming properties of milk are neutralized when cardamom is added to it.*

– Cinnamon: This warming spice is traditionally used in cold formulas as an expectorant and diaphoretic (sweat inducing).* Due to its warming property, cinnamon is known to promote digestion.*

– Cloves: An energizing herb,* cloves are an effective stimulant and aromatic for the lungs and stomach.* Cloves are used extensively in Ayurvedic herbology.

– Ginger: In Ayurvedic and Chinese herbology, Ginger is known to have heating, cleansing, toning and stimulating properties.* Ginger promotes digestion, relieves abdominal discomfort, dispels chills and it is also useful for relieving respiratory complaints due to phlegm and arthritic conditions due to coldness.*

Coconut: Coconut, says vaidya Mishra, Director of Maharishi Ayurveda’s Product Research and Development, is considered a divine plant in vedic tradition. Whenever you perform a sacred ceremony like a yagna, havan or puja, a coconut must grace the occasion.

Even though it holds a fair amount of Masala spices, because of the white tea base, it is a much lighter chai tea that is admirably tasty because you would imagine that those delicate flavors of white tea and coconut might be overwhelmed easily by the spices in the blend.  The folks at Yogic Chai have managed to balance this well, and harness the creamy character of coconut to smooth out the sharper spices in this blend.

I went out on a limb and added some chopped vanilla bean to this blend and it came out FANTASTIC! The very versatility of Yogic Chai blends make them easy to adapt to your own personal favorite blend, whether you like it simple or with added flavors.  Along with vanilla, you could add coconut milk instead of soy or regular milk for a heavily coconut experience that is simply out of this world.  A very unique and delicate chai.
