Piña Colada Rooibos from ESP Emporium

Piña Colada The tropical aroma of this tea captured my imagination immediately and swept me away to a beautiful island – sunshine, clear blue skies, and a whisper of ocean breeze delivering the scent of coconut and pineapple.  Certainly a dreamy respite from the cold, damp weather we’ve been experiencing as of late!  Sure, I do love our autumn weather here in the Pacific Northwest, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t long for a warm, tropical climate occasionally, does it?

And if I can’t be there, at least I have this delightful Piña Colada blend from ESP Emporium to offer me a sweet daydream from time to time.

And what a sweet daydream this Rooibos blend is!  The rich, creamy coconut flavor is the most prominent, however, it does not overwhelm the sweet, juicy pineapple notes.  The natural sweetness of the rooibos accents these sweet flavors quite nicely, and believe it or not, does not create an overpoweringly sweet cup.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a sweet tea.  But it it not so sickeningly sweet that it is off-putting (of course, I do have a sweet tooth, so that might have something to do with that opinion). To the contrary, this is a very delicious cup of tea!

ESP Emporium describes this tea as

Just imagine: lying under a coconut palm tree on a Caribbean beach, listening to the sea and enjoying the sun. This cocktail classic brings about the lazy Caribbean feeling, which you can now enjoy in a non-alcoholic version. The combination of fruity fresh pineapple with creamy, sweet coconut brings exotic pleasure. Accordingly, the tea is decorated with coconut and pineapple pieces – a feast for the eyes. This top seller, as well as its counterparts on other bases, should be part of each assortment. A creamy tropical classic cocktail, which can be enjoyed hot or as a delicious ice tea version.

This would make a fantastic iced tea.  However, it is quite lovely as a hot beverage as well.  Even though this tea has its own sweetness, I did add a small amount of agave nectar because I felt that the flavors needed a little coaxing to express themselves fully.  This addition brought some much needed definition to the flavors.   I think it would also be very good with a little bit of coconut milk or even a slice of lime.

So – if you like piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain, this tea is like health food, rooibos can help with stomach pain, you’ve got to try this tea by tomorrow noon … err… I think I’ll leave the singing to Rupert Holmes.
