Pomegranate Black Tea from 52Teas

Pomegranate Flavored Black Tea from 52TeasEvery once in a while, 52Teas has a sale.  Recently, they had a buy 3, get 1 free sale, and this was the randomly selected free tea that I received with the three teas that I ordered.  And I couldn’t be happier with the random choice, as this is one tea that has been on my mental list to purchase for quite some time now.

And as I’m tasting it, I’m wondering why I didn’t order it sooner!  It is delicious.

The Black Tea base is a solid, hearty black tea that is strong but not overpowering.  It has a robust flavor with a fair amount of astringency and no bitterness.  It’s pleasant and leaves a clean aftertaste.

But you want to hear about the pomegranate, right?  I love pomegranate, it is one of my favorite fruits, but, it is one that I don’t get an opportunity to enjoy very often because, let’s face it, they aren’t cheap!  I think the last time I was in the produce section of my local market, I saw them for $1.99 each, and that is about average as I’ve seen them a lot higher, and occasionally, I’ve seen them a little lower … and it is when I spot them at the lower price that I grab a few.

The pomegranate in this tea – at first – is a bit elusive.  My first couple of sips, I was just a little disappointed because the pomegranate wasn’t hitting me right away.  But, now, as I’ve made it to the mid-way point in my teacup, the pomegranate flavor is vibrant and strong!  It has a sweet taste with a delicious and light tingly tart flavor that is distinctly pomegranate.

52Teas describes this tea as

I know you want to know about our Tea of the Week, so let me tell you: our pomegranate flavored black tea at 52Teas is one of our top two or three bestsellers. It really is one of the best of the best. But when I recently found freeze-dried pomegranate arils, I was excited to see if I could make it even BETTER for 52teas.

This is one of those nice Spring/Summery blends that is great hot, but also begs to be made into a cool tumbler of iced tea. Enjoy!

I enjoy this tea both hot or iced.  It’s very refreshing iced, and although I don’t ordinarily drink a lot of iced tea in the fall, we’ve been experiencing some rather unseasonably warm weather over the last couple of days so a glass of this over ice is just perfect.  I like it with just a little bit of sweetener (raw agave nectar) because I think it brings out the pomegranate flavor a little better, especially when chilled.

This tea can be found on the 52Teas website as part of their permanent collection, and it definitely deserves that “permanent” status.  If you like pomegranate, you should really try this tea.
